The Game Story:
ROCHESTER, NY -- The RIT (3-2, 1-0 E8) men's lacrosse team won its Empire 8 opener, 12-5, over Hartwick College on Saturday afternoon. It was the fourth straight win over the Hawks and the second straight win for the Tigers.

RIT took control of the game in the first quarter, tallying six first-quarter goals and seven straight to start the game.

The Tigers outshot Hartwick 42-31, dominated face-offs winning 16-of-19 and won the ground ball battle 51-16.

Sean Gillies (Oakville, ON/Albany Academy), Chris Ferry (Webster, NY/Webster Schroeder), Iric Bressler (Stafford, VA), Dan Rago (Geneva, NY) and David Burke (Fairport, NY) each had two goals to pace the Tigers offense. Gillies added a pair of assists.

Phil Davenport (New Market, MD/Linganore) had a game-high 11 ground balls and Jacob Brunner (Lafayette, NY) won 16-of-19 face-offs and had seven ground balls.

RIT came out strong in the first quarter, tallying six goals. Dan Rago had two goals in the quarter, opening the scoring at 10:38 of the first.

Andrew Ruocco (Corning, NY/Corning East), Ferry, Gillies and Burke also had goals in the opening quarter. Ruocco's goal was a nifty behind-the-back shot on a feed from Gillies at 8:35 of the quarter.

Iric Bressler's goal at 10:14 of the second quarter gave the Tigers a 7-0 lead.

The Hawks got on the board with 3:02 to play in the first half when Mike Robustello converted on a feed from Vito DeMola.

Gillies was able to give RIT an 8-1 lead with a goal just before the halftime horn blew. He drove around the net and scored with .8 seconds remaining in the half.

David Burke opened the second-half scoring with his second goal of the afternoon, making it 9-1 RIT.

Robustello and Alex Giovinazzo scored two straight goals for the Hawks, cutting RIT's lead to 9-3 midway through the third quarter.

Bressler's second goal of the game stopped the Hartwick run, giving RIT a 10-3 lead with 7:00 minutes remaining in the third quarter.

After a Hartwick goal cut the lead to 10-4 Chris Ferry rounded out the scoring in the third quarter on an unassisted tally with 1:34 remaining.

Each team scored a goal in the fourth quarter, making the final score 12-5.

Brad Conlon (Ottawa, ON/Bridgton Academy) picked up the win for RIT, making 12 saves and allowing five goals. John Meade took the loss allowing 12 goals and making 15 saves.
