The Game Story:
TROY, N.Y. – Junior Briggs Thompson (South Lyme, CT/East Lyme) tallied six goals and classmate PJ McComb (Newington, CT/Newington) added a game-high eight points to lead Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) past Lasell College, 19-2, in non-conference men’s lacrosse action at Harkness Field. With the victory, the Red Hawks remain undefeated at 6-0, while the Lazers fall to 1-2.

The Red Hawks jumped out to an early 3-0 lead in the first quarter, led by goals from McComb, Thompson, and junior Mike Sampson (Columbus, OH/Upper Arlington). The visiting Lazers cut the deficit to two at 7:28 on a goal by sophomore Mike Maggio (Winchester, MA/Winchester), but Rensselaer would score a pair and add six more tallies in the second frame for an 11-1 lead at halftime.

Holding a 13-1 advantage at 9:30 of the third quarter, RPI surrendered a goal to Lasell sophomore Derek Allan (Billerica, MA/Billerica) at 7:31, but scored the game’s final six goals, including five in the final frame, for the winning margin.

In addition to Thompson and McComb, who had three goals and five assists, the Red Hawks saw Sampson score two goals with an assist. Sophomore Josh Secora (Evergreen, CO/Golden) chipped in a goal and an assist and seven other players had a goal each.

RPI saw junior John Thibdeau (Altamont, NY/Bethlehem) improve to 6-0 in goal with five saves through the first three quarters. Three others played the final quarter, including senior Ryan Michels (Wilmington, DE/Brandywine), stopped one.

For Lasell, senior Jeremy Davis (Emmaus, PA/Emmaus) added an assist and classmate Mark DeMieri (Seaford, NY/Seaford) suffered the loss in goal. DeMieri played the first three quarters, making seven saves before giving way to freshman Eric Walsh (Weymouth, MA/Weymouth), who stopped two shots.

Rensselaer returns to the field on Saturday for a non-conference match-up against the Red Dragons of Oneonta St. at Harkness Field (1pm). The Lazers also return to action on Saturday at Norwich (1pm).
