The Game Story:
VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. -- Senior Jordan Kenney (Linthicum, Md./Baltimore Mount St. Joseph) scored three of Virginia Wesleyan College's first four goals Tuesday en route to recording a career-high eight goals that helped carry the host Marlins to a decisive 19-9 non-conference victory over the Bearcats of St. Vincent College.

The first meeting ever between the schools in lacrosse was an even battle in the early going, tied at 1-all, but Kenney changed that all with his first goal on an unassisted play with 4:55 remaining in the first quarter. Junior Drew Langis (Baltimore, Md./Calvert Hall) set up Kenney for two more scores in the final 2:31 of the quarter as the Marlins (1-1) took a 4-1 lead into the second stanza.

VWC simply rode the momentum as Josh Riley (Mount Airy, Md./Urbana) and Brett Morris (Randolph, N.J./Randolph) scored back-to-back goals in the first two minutes, before Kenney took over and tacked on two more in a span of 48 seconds. The Marlins outscored the Bearcats 6-2 in the quarter to opening up a 10-3 lead at the break and extended the advantage by outscoring St. Vincent 9-6 in the second half.

Morris finished with two goals for VWC, Bart Christy (Severna Park, Md./Severna Park) and Langis had two each, and rookies Damian Becker (Lynbrook, N.Y./Lynbrook) and Brendan Moore (Dublin, Ohio/Jermon) scored the first goals of their intercollegiate careers. Morris led the Marlins with three assists, Langis recorded two, and Maicin Dunk (Towson, Md./Towson), Christian Clark (Arnold, Md./Baltimore Mount St. Joseph), Shawn Fitchpatrick (Endicott, N.Y./Maine-Endwell), Becker, and Kenney all added one each.

VWC outshot St. Vincent 43-26. Senior goalie Tom Skartsiaris (Lynbrook, N.Y./Lynbrook) recorded nine saves in a little more than 50 minutes of work. Rookie Alex Marin (Palos Verdes, Calif./Palos Verdes) recorded three saves in nearly seven minutes in front of the goal, before John-Paul Novak (Centreville, Va./Chantilly Westfield) entered to close the contest.

Zach Wilfong led St. Vincent with six goals.

Virginia Wesleyan returns to competition on Saturday, Mar. 1, playing at No. 11-ranked Washington College of Maryland at 1 p.m.
