The Game Story:
GETTYSBURG, PA -- Second-ranked and top-seeded host Gettysburg College topped 16th-ranked and third-seeded Washington College, 11-4, in the Centennial Conference men's lacrosse championship game this afternoon on Shirk Field at Musselman Stadium. The Bullets locked up an automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Tournament with the win.

Gettysburg (14-2) jumped out to a 3-0 lead after the first quarter. Joe Brody opened the scoring at 10:10, Trip Dyer scored off a feed from Rob Triplett with 9:34 left in the first, and Zach Pucci scored off an assist from Greg Montgomery with 5:07 remaining.

Washington (11-6) got on the board with 12:52 left in the second quarter when sophomore midfielder Casey O'Connor (Crownsville, MD/Archbishop Spalding) scored after scooping up a ground ball in an unsettled transition situation. O'Connor then fired in another goal with 10:40 on the clock to cut the lead to 3-2. The Bullets answered with a goal by Stu Whelehan from 15 yards out at 5:31, but the Shoremen responded with a goal from junior midfielder Steve Humphries (Fairfax, VA/Hayfield Secondary) 30 seconds later to make it 4-3. Tommy Kehoe gave Gettysburg a two-goal lead with one second left in the half when he scored in transition off an assist from Drew Duckworth to account for a 5-3 score at the intermission.

The Bullets opened up the third quarter scoring with a Brody goal off a Triplett assist at 8:46 and a goal from Ben Sufrin off a pass from Andrew Mavraganis at 7:42 to build a 7-3 advantage. Brody then added a goal off an assist from Montgomery with 3:01 left in the third quarter to make it 8-3.

Kevin Freehill made it a six-goal lead with a goal with 12:50 to play in regulation. The Shoremen got back on the board on a goal by junior midfielder Kolyn Kirby (Chestertown, MD/Kent County) off a feed from senior defenseman Dan MacDonald (Westfield, NJ/Westfield) with 9:57 remaining to trim the margin to 9-4. Gettysburg quickly put the game out of reach, however, as Brody scored off a feed from Ted Leonard with 9:22 to go and Andrew McGann scored an unassisted marker 17 seconds later to extend the lead to 11-4.

Gettysburg held a 37-18 advantage in shots in the game, including a 23-8 advantage in the second half. The Bullets also held a 34-19 advantage in ground balls in the game, including a 16-8 margin in the second half.

Brody paced the Bullets with four goals, while Montgomery and Triplett each had two assists. O'Connor led the Shoremen with a pair of goals.

Gettysburg goalie Pat Vaughn made six saves in the win for the Bullets, while sophomore goalie Gordon Cohen (New Canaan, CT/New Canaan) made 14 stops for the Shoremen.
