The Game Story:
LEXINGTON, Va. - Jake Van Nostrand (Baldwin, NY/Baldwin) and Ric Bremer (Ridgefield, CT/John Jay [NY]) each netted hat tricks and goalie Tim McGinnis (Ellicott City, MD/Loyola-Blakefield) made 16 saves to lead second-ranked Gettysburg past No. 6 Washington & Lee 10-7 in non-conference men's lacrosse action on Saturday.

Van Nostrand scored unassisted with 21.3 seconds left in the third quarter to break a 6-all tie and put the Bullets (3-0) ahead to stay. McGinnis and the Gettysburg defense sealed the victory, holding the Generals (2-2) scoreless for all but the final 26 seconds of the fourth quarter, helping the Bullets snap a two-game losing streak to W&L.

Van Nostrand added two assists on the afternoon for a team-high five points while Bremer and Nick Purkat (Annandale, VA/W.T. Woodson) (2 goals, 2 assists) finished with four points apiece.

Matt Fink and Andrew Barnett led the Generals with two goals apiece while Gavin Molinelli chipped in with three assists. In a style typical of their rivalry, the two teams fought to five ties before Van Nostrand's heroics.

With less than two minutes left in the third quarter and the game tied at 6, W&L was able to kill a furious Gettysburg extra-man opportunity before Van Nostrand got free and beat General goalie Ansel Sanders to make it 7-6 with 21.3 seconds remaining in the quarter.

Following the third of three big McGinnis saves to open the fourth, Purkat found Van Nostrand wide open on the right doorstep and the Bullets' scoring leader buried the man-up shot to push the lead to 8-6 with 9:11 remaining.

Bremer made it a three-goal game off an assist from Kevin Smith (Baltimore, MD/McDonogh) at 4:11 and Chris Baran (Newington, CT/Newington) finished another Smith feed two minutes later to seal the win. The Generals were shut out in the fourth quarter until Barnett scored with 26.4 seconds left.

Despite a W&L advantage in shots and ground balls, the two teams battled to a standstill in the opening 30 minutes. Molinelli set up Fink on the Generals' first possession to open the scoring 59 seconds into the contest. On Gettysburg's first extra-man opportunity, Bremer buried a pass from Purkat to knot the game at one with 9:28 left in the quarter.

Rob Brown put W&L back on top briefly at the 7:27 mark, but goals from Bremer and Wes Cadman (Yorktown Hts., NY/Yorktown) gave the Bullets a 3-2 lead at the end of one quarter.

Van Nostrand finished a solo run to make it a two-goal Gettysburg lead, but Fink and Mike McNamara scored goals exactly one minute apart to knot the game at 4. Barnett's acrobatic goal to open the third gave the Generals their last lead of the day at 5-4 with 11:41 left in the quarter. With his five-point outing, Van Nostrand leads the Bullets with 18 points in their first three games of the season.

Gettysburg's win was also the fifth straight by the visiting team in this series. Sanders finished with 13 saves for W&L.
