The Game Story:
LEXINGTON, Va. – Senior attackman Ned Rider (Manakin-Sabot, Va./Collegiate) scored a game-high four goals in leading Washington and Lee to a 9-6 win over Virginia Wesleyan in ODAC men’s lacrosse action on Saturday afternoon at the W&L Turf Field.

Rider began the scoring just 2:03 into the game as he found rope off an assist from sophomore attackman Will Keigler (Timonium, Md./Gilman). However, Virginia Wesleyan senior attackman Jordan Kenney (Linthicum, Md./Mt. St. Joseph) went on to score the game’s next three goals, including two off assists from senior attackman Brett Morris (Randolph, N.J./Randolph), to give the Marlins a 3-1 lead just 15 seconds into the second quarter.

The Generals (5-4, 1-0) responded with a four-goal run, including a pair of scores from Rider, to take a 5-3 lead with 1:08 remaining until halftime. VWC (6-4, 1-1) sliced it to a 5-4 game on a goal by Morris just 36 seconds before the break and then knotted the score at 5-5 on another Morris tally just 1:45 into the third period.

W&L then assumed control of the contest on a trio of goals, including two by Keigler, to take an 8-5 lead heading into the final quarter en route to its 17th-straight win over the Marlins.

Rider’s effort was supported by Keigler’s two goals and one goal and two assists from junior midfielder Harry St. John (Essex Fells, N.J./West Essex). Senior attackman Will Englehart (Cockeysville, Md./Dulaney) added one goal and one assist, while junior goalkeeper Connor Locke (Alexandria, Va./St. Stephen’s & St. Agnes) posted 11 saves.

Kenney’s three goals paced Virginia Wesleyan, while Morris tallied two goals and two assists. Senior Tom Skartsiaris (Lynbrook, N.Y./Lynbrook) stopped 13 shots in goal.

Washington and Lee returns to action on Wednesday as it hosts Roanoke College for a 7:00 pm contest.
