The Game Story:
LEXINGTON, Va. – Washington College senior attackman Kolyn Kirby (Chestertown, Md./Kent County) scored unassisted with 58 seconds left in overtime to lift the 11th-ranked Shoremen to a 12-11 victory over Washington and Lee in men’s lacrosse on Saturday afternoon at the W&L Turf Field.

The Generals (2-2) jumped out to a 5-2 lead after the first quarter on the strength of a pair of goals from senior attackman Ned Rider (Manakin-Sabot, Va./Collegiate). However, the Shoremen (4-0) out-scored W&L, 4-0, in the second quarter to assume a 6-5 lead at the break.

Neither team led by more than two goals in the second half, with Washington taking a 9-7 lead at the 5:56 mark of the third period on consecutive goals by junior attackman Jimmy Kielek (Baltimore, Md./Archbishop Curley) and Kirby. However, W&L retaliated with three-straight markers, including a man-down goal by sophomore attackman Will Keigler (Timonium, Md./Gilman) off a feed from senior defenseman Spotty Robins (Richmond, Va./Woodberry Forest) for a 10-9 lead with 8:39 to play.

The Shoremen bounced back quickly, knotting the game at 10-10 just 14 seconds after Keigler’s goal as senior attackman Chris Read (Baltimore, Md./Boys’ Latin) scored man-up off an assist from junior midfielder Matt Moreton (Darnestown, Md./Northwest). W&L junior midfielder Harry St. John (Essex Fells, N.J./West Essex) gave the Generals an 11-10 lead with an unassisted tally at the 4:42 mark, but WAC knotted the game with 2:59 left on an unassisted score by Read that sent the teams into overtime tied at 11-11.

Rider paced the W&L offense with four goals, while St. John tallied three goals. Keigler chipped in one goal and two assists. Junior Connor Locke (Alexandria, Va./St. Stephen’s & St. Agnes) stopped 12 shots in goal for the Generals.

Read led the Washington College offense with five goals and two assists, while Kirby registered three goals and two assists. Junior Gordon Cohen (New Canaan, Conn./New Canaan) logged 11 saves between the pipes. Washington and Lee returns to action on Monday as it travels to Hood College for a 4:00 pm contest.
