The Game Story:
COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – Dane Mangin scored twice during a three-goal fourth quarter, breaking a 4-all deadlock and giving Ursinus a 7-4 win over McDaniel in Centennial Conference (CC) men’s lacrosse action on Saturday.
Mike Hatton (Corning, N.Y./Corning East) scored twice for the Green Terror (4-4, 0-2 CC), who has alternated wins and losses through its first eight games of the season.
Dan Monzo added two goals for the Bears (5-4, 3-1 CC), including back-to-back- tallies to erase a 2-0 McDaniel lead.
Knotted at 4-all through 55 minutes of play, Mangin finished a Monzo feed with 4:05 to play to give the hosts a one-goal advantage.
With 1:31 to play, Mangin pushed the advantage to two before Justin Reinke tallied unassisted with 59 seconds on the clock to seal the win.
Hatton scored at either end of the first quarter to stake the Green Terror to a 2-0 lead after 15 minutes.
Monzo’s consecutive markers nearly five-and-a-half minutes apart in the second quarter knotted the game before Tony Ubertaccio scored eight seconds after Monzo’s second goal to give Ursinus a 3-2 lead.
Gibbs Preston (Baltimore, Md./McDonogh) found the back of the net 1 minute, 18 seconds before intermission to knot the game at halftime before Jason Smith and Bill Warner (Yardley, Pa./LaSalle) exchanged goals in the third quarter to once again knot the score.
Matt Angle won 7 of 12 faceoffs for Urinus, who also held a 37-27 advantage in ground balls.
The Green Terror returns to action at home against Franklin & Marshall on Wednesday. Game time is 4 p.m.
