The Game Story:
The St. John Fisher College men's lacrosse team improved to 3-0 for the first time in the program's history, as the Cardinals held on to defeat visiting SUNY Plattsburgh 9-8 on Thursday at Growney Stadium.

Fisher led 4-0 just 3:02 into the game, but Plattsburgh (0-1), who trailed 6-3 at intermission, rallied and tied the game at 7-7 going into the fourth quarter.

Fisher took the lead for good on a goal from Jeff Price (Honeoye Fall-Lima)with 7:48 left on a pass from Mike Cummins (Penfield/Penfield). Fisher added the eventual game-winner with 2:02 left as Mike Cortina (Binghamton/Binghamton) tallied his sixth goal of the year on a pass from Dave Malone (Penfield/Penfield).

Plattsburgh pulled to within a goal with 1:48 left and had possession with just under a minute remaining, but Fisher senior defender Mark Keida (West Genesee/Camillus) intercepted a pass and took it the length of the field.

Cummins finished with two goals and one assist, as did sophomore Chris Schmidt (West Genesee/Camillus). Cortina, Scott Bowen (Binghamton/Binghamton) and Malone each finished with one goal and one assist. Dave Wood (Vestal/Vestal) scored Fisher's first goal of the game, just 12 seconds into the contest. The junior also won 11-of-17 faceoffs and finished with a team-high seven ground balls.

Bill Empey (McQuaid/Rochester) finished with six ground balls, while Keida added four.

Fisher's Dan Serafine (Canandaigua/Canandaigua) earned his first career win in goal. Serafine made five saves over the final 30 minutes. Jon Cortina (Binghamton/Binghamton) started in goal and allowed three goals, while making six saves in the first half.
