The Game Story:
The St. John Fisher College men’s lacrosse team earned a 7-6 win over visiting Stevens on Sunday, and improved to 7-2 overall, 2-2 in the Empire 8.

Jason Cirulli (Webster Schroeder/Webster) gave the Cardinals their first lead of the game 26 seconds into the fourth quarter, snapping a 4-4 tie.

Fisher held the lead for three minutes until the Ducks answered with a goal to knot the score at five all with 11:47 remaining. Over the next five minutes however, Fisher took control of the game with goals from Mike Cortina (Binghamton/Binghamton), and Scott Bowen (Binghamton/Binghamton), and held off a late Stevens rally to earn the win.

Seven different Cardinals registered a goal for Fisher, including Malone, who finished the contest with one goal and two assists. Bowen, Chris Schmidt (West Genesee/Camillus), Mike Cortina (Binghamton/Binghamton), Ryan Kavanaugh (West Genesee/Syracuse), Jeff Price (Honeoye Falls-Lima/Lima) and Cirulli each notched one goal, with Matt Kaiser (Waterloo/Waterloo) adding an assist.

Junior Dave Wood (Vestal/Vestal) won 12-of-16 faceoffs and scooped up a game-best nine ground balls, while goalie Jon Cortina (Binghamton/Binghamton) anchored the Fisher defense with 10 saves.

Fisher will return to action on Wednesday to host the Rochester Institute of Technology Tigers.
