The Bears took an 11-1 halftime lead and never looked back as the Bears (1-0) outshot the Greyhounds (0-1) 45-25.
Sophomore attack Pat Nagle (Stony Brook, NY/Ward Melville) led the way with a game-high three goals, with junior attack Jason Patterson (West Chester, PA/Unionville), senior midfielder Dane Mangin (Willow Grove, PA/Archbishop Wood), senior attack Justin Reinke (Setauket, NY/Ward Melville) and junior attach Greg Bacak (Sellersville, PA/Pennridge) all netting two goals in the opener.
Mangin and Patterson each added three assists in the win.
Freshman midfielder Matt Angle (Manchester, MD/North Carroll), senior defenseman Eric Hoffman (Sellersville, PA/Pennridge) and sophomore long-stick midfielder Derrin Mangin (Willow Grove, PA/Archbishop Wood) each picked up four ground balls for the Bears.
Ursinus got on the board with 9:16 left in the first quarter when junior attack Brian Boorse (Centre Valley, PA/Southern Lehigh) scored unassisted. The Bears took a 2-0 lead on a man-advantage goal from Reinke with 7:12 left.
Nagle got his first goal of the season at the 6:02 mark, on an assist from Reinke for a 3-0 Ursinus advantage. With 3:19 left in the first, Dane Mangin scored on a man-up advantage on a Patterson assist for a 4-0 lead.
Junior midfielder Ian Jordan (Media, PA/Penncrest) scored the next goal with 2:12 left, unassisted for a 5-0 advantage. With 1:02 left, Patterson got his first goal on an assist from sophomore Tom Walsh (Smithtown, NY/Smithtown West).
Moravian avoided the shutout by scoring with 20 seconds left as Christopher Mohapp unassisted.
In the second quarter, junior attack Jason Orlando (Morton, PA/Springfield) scored the first goal with 8:17 left on a Nagle assist. The lead grew to 9-1 with 6:54 left when Dane Mangin scored his second goal of the game on an assist from Boorse. Nagle added his second goal of the game with 4:37 left when he scored on a Dane Mangin assist for a 9-1 lead.
Reinke scored his second goal of the game just 1:31 later on a Patterson assists. Patterson then notched his second goal of the game with just six ticks left in the half for an 11-1 halftime lead. Orlando had the assist.
In the third quarter, Nagle scored the lone goal of the quarter with 5:07 left on a Patterson assist.
Ursinus started the fourth quarter with a goal from freshman Brian Regan (Cazenovia, NY/Cazenovia) at 12:57 unassisted for a 13-1 lead. With Moravian holding a man-advantage, the Greyhounds scored with 12:09 left when David Bennett scored on a Mohapp assist.
However, the Bears scored a goal with 11:06, down one man, when sophomore attack Dan Monzo (Collegeville, PA/Spring Ford) got on the board on a Dane Mangin assist.
With 10:14 left, the Bears got a goal from sophomore attack Eric Farris (Pottsgrove, PA/Pottsgrove) unassisted for a 15-2 lead. The lead grew to 16-2 with 8:38 left when freshman Tony Ubertaccio (Green Village, NY/Delbarton) scored on an assist from freshman midfielder Pat Gillen (Merrick, NY/Calhoun). The final goal of the game came at 3:10 when junior attack Greg Bacak (Sellersville, PA/Pennridge) scored on a Regan assist.
Goalkeepers Tony Aquilino (Abington, PA/Archbishop Wood) and Jake Hubble (Wescoville, PA/Emmaus) split time in goal with both making six saves.
Ursinus will host Drew next Wednesday at 6 p.m. |
