The Tigers closed out a weekend homestand with another comeback win today after beating Guilford in overtime last night. The Tigers topped visiting Oberlin 17-15 after trailing much of the game.
Sewanee jumped out to an early 1-0 lead on a Louis Smart (Charlotte, N.C.) goal, but Oberlin regrouped quickly and led 3-2 after the first quarter. At halftime, the Yoemen had upped their lead and were ahead 7-5. Sewanee fought hard in the third, tying the game at 12 apiece for the beginning of the fourth quarter. The final period was a see-saw battle, with the Tigers going ahead 16-15 with three minutes left on a Chris Edge (Chestertown, Md.) goal to take the lead that they would hold the rest of the contest. Nashville native Travis Brannon bought Sewanee a little insurance with an unassisted goal one minute later, securing the final score of 17-15 in favor of the host Tigers.
Marietta, Georgia’s Will Grimes led Sewanee’s scoring effort with five in the net. Teddy Peterson (McLean, Va.) chalked up four goals and also picked up four ground balls. Smart had two goals and five ground balls. Senior John Pinney (Timonium, Md.) helped make it all happen by assisting on four of the Tiger goals. He also chipped in one of his own. Alex Jacobs, Nick Sherman and Jesse Kane each had three goals for Oberlin.
The Tigers move to .500 with a 3-3 tally so far in 2008. They will play Fontbonne and Mt. St. Joseph’s on the road next weekend. Oberlin opened its season today and will face Vassar on March 30. |
