| | | | Current Record : (8-4) | Current Record : (13-2) | | | | Go to team page > | Go to team page > | | | | | | The Game Story: | Scranton, PA - Visiting Cabrini College, currently ranked seventh in the country, built a 14-1 halftime lead and cruised to their 63rd straight conference victory with an 18-5 decision over Marywood Wednesday afternoon. With the win, the Cavaliers completed a perfect conference season (8-0) and improved to 13-2 overall. The Pacer, who lost for the first time at home this season, dropped to 8-4 on the year and 4-2 in the Pennsylvania Athletic Conference play.
Marywood is in the midst of a three-way battle for the final two conference playoff berths with Shenandoah and Centenary. The Pacers will need a win in their final game of the season against Shenandoah, who defeated Neumann 24-9 this afternoon, to have a chance at securing a playoff berth in their inaugural season.
Cabrini built a 3-0 over the first four minutes of Wednesday’s game, getting unassisted goals from Matt McKinney, Paul Skulski, and B.J. Kletcheck. Marywood would get one back on a nifty passing play in which Will Roerden (Warwick, NY) found a cutting Andrew Lozoskie (Forest Hill, MD) who scored with 8:23 to play in the opening frame.
The Cavaliers, who will enter the PAC playoffs as the top-seed looking for the eighth straight conference championship, responded to Losozkie’s goal in a big way, scoring the next 14 goals of the game, a span that stretched until the 10:57 mark of the fourth quarter.
Cabrini led 8-1 after the first quarter and tacked on six more in the second quarter, punctuated by Casey Grugan’s goal with just one second remaining in the first half.
McKinney sandwiched a pair of goals around a Grugan tally to account for the only scoring in a third quarter in which Marywood improved upon its defensive effort. McKinney and Grugan would each finish the day with a game-high four goals.
The Pacers play was again much stronger in the fourth quarter, as the hosts outscored Cabrini 4-1 in the final period. Lozoskie netted his second of the game off a Nick Parks (Emmaus, PA) assist just over four minutes into the period to break the Cavaliers streak. Three minutes later, Roerden netted a goal of his own.
After Kace Krebeck scored for the visitors, Roerden dished out his second assist of the afternoon, this time setting up Parks’ man-up goal with 3:49 to play. A minute later, Lozoskie completed his hat-trick by picking up an unassisted goal that closed out the scoring.
Cabrini held a 45-22 advantage in shots and a 53-38 edge in groundballs. The Cavaliers were dominant on face-offs, winning 20 of the game’s 26 draws. Marywod went 1-2 with the extra man while holding Cabrini scoreless in their lone man-up opportunity.
Kevin Chenoweth picked up the win by making seven saves in the Cavaliers’ net while Sean Reynolds made two saves in relief of Chenoweth. Jesse Habich (Broomall, PA) stopped 13 Cabrini shots in the loss.
Marywood will host Shenandoah in their regular season finale this Saturday in what promises to be an intense battle as both teams’ postseason fortunes will be determined by the outcome of the game. The Pacers and Hornets will face-off at 1:00 p.m. |
