|  |  | | Current Record : (5-2) | Current Record : (1-8) |  |  | | Go to team page > | Go to team page > | | | | | | The Game Story: | Scranton, PA – Marywood broke open a 5-5 halftime deadlock by scoring four times in the third quarter while holding visiting Neumann College scoreless in the period and the Pacers held on to notch a 10-8 victory in Pennsylvania Athletic Conference action Saturday afternoon. With the win, Marywood snapped its two-game losing skid and improved to 5-2 on the season and 2-2 in the PAC while Neumann’s record slips to 1-8 overall and 1-2 in the conference.
Neumann took a 1-0 lead on Justin Mailloux’s extra-man goal 2:10 into the contest, but the Pacers responded with three goals in the next 2:28 as Andrew Harman (Patchogue, NY) tied the score before Ryne Boyle (Farmingville, NY) netted a pair for Marywood. Nick Parks (Emmaus, PA) assisted on both of Boyle’s goals.
Matt Toth brought the visitors to within one with 7:53 to play in the opening frame, but the Pacers’ Jamie Beagen (Patchogue, NY) found the back of the net off of a William Roerden’s (Warwick, NY) assist to give Marywood a 4-2 lead.
The Knights would rally from two goals down to tie the score at 5-5 going into halftime as Kyle Gardner and Kevin Kelly each scored in the final 4:32 of the opening half after Kyle Sheckler and Brian Roerden (Warwick, NY) traded goals earlier in the period.
Marywood would come out inspired after halftime and reclaimed the lead just under three minutes into the third quarter as the Roerden brothers combined for the second time in the contest, as Brian setting up William for the tally. Beagen scored his second goal of the game off an assist from Harman with the Pacers up a man, before Parks scored two goals of his own just 16 seconds apart as Marywood claimed a 9-5 lead heading into the game’s final quarter.
Scheckler and Gardner brought Neumann to within two with goals in fourth quarter’s first six minutes, but Marywood converted for the third time on the afternoon with the extra-man as Boyle completed his hat-trick with Brian Roerden notching his third helper of the afternoon with 7:52.
Toth closed out the scoring by tallying unassisted with 23 seconds to play and the Knights a man down.
Marywood finished the day with a 34-26 edge in shots and 53-50 advantage in groundballs. The Pacers were three for six with the extra-man while the Knights went two for nine.
Jesse Habich (Broomall, PA) picked up his fourth win off the season after making 10 saves in the Pacers’ net, while Jake Boulay took the loss for Neumann despite making 18 saves.
Marywood will return to action this Wednesday when they host conference foe Alvernia College in a PAC game scheduled to begin at 4:00 p.m. |
