The Game Story:
RATTLERS FALL IN WEATHER-SHORTENED CONTEST

On a night when Rochester attackman Casey Powell became the all-time leading scorer in Major League Lacrosse history, it was Mother Nature who had the final say as the Rattlers dropped their first game of the year, a 14-11 setback against the Washington Bayhawks in a weather-shortened affair at George Mason Stadium on Saturday evening.

With 2:29 remaining in the third quarter, the officiating crew stopped the game due to lightning in the area and after a 70-minute delay, the game was deemed official to give Washington a three-goal victory.

Bayhawks midfielder Kyle Dixon scored a game-high five goals with an assist to lead Washington to its third straight victory.

Powell, who had two goals with an assist in the loss, moved past Mark Millon on the league’s all-time points list when he assisted a goal by John Grant, Jr. with 11:37 remaining in the third quarter. He now has 358 points in his MLL career.

In a wild first half which featured six ties and three lead changes, the Rattlers and the Bayhawks battled to an 8-8 tie. Dixon scored four of his five goals in the first half to lead the Bayhawks while eight different Rattlers found the back of the net.

After the teams traded goals to open the third quarter, the Bayhawks scored three straight goals to take a 12-9 advantge with 9:19 remaining in the stanza. Dixon scored his fifth goal of the game and tallied his lone assist during the run.

Powell tallied his second goal to cut the Rattler deficit to 12-10 before Bill McGlone scored back-to-back goals for a 14-10 lead for the Bayhawks.

With 2:29 remaining, Brett Bucktooth scored off a feed from Brodie Merrill for the game’s final goal before the officials stopped play.

Dixon led the Bayhawks with six points while McGlone and Matt Ward added a pair of markers.

Powell led Rochester with two goals and one assist while two-time Offensive Player of the Week John Grant, Jr. scored twice.
