After falling behind by 4-0, the Cannons snapped a two-game losing streak and spoiled the Pride’s home opener with a 17-8 victory at Yurcak Field.
After battling to a 7-7 tie at the intermission, the Cannons held the Pride to just one goal in the second half and earned the season sweep over their Eastern Conference rivals.
Led by two goals from Chris Unterstein, the Pride jumped out to a quick 4-0 lead in the first 11 minutes of the opening period. But, the Cannons used two goals in the final three minutes of the stanza to cut the margin to 4-2.
After a goal from Merrick Thomson upped the Pride advantage to 5-2 just over five minutes into the second quarter, the Cannons scored five of the next six goals to take a 7-6 advantage with 1:05 remaining in the half. John Christmas scored a goal with an assist during the run for the Cannons.
Thomson ended the first half scoring with an unassisted goal with 37 seconds remaining, tying the game at 7-7.
The Cannons regained the lead in the third quarter by scoring three of the period’s four goals, including a pair of power-play markers from Matt Alrich.
Leading by 10-8, the Cannons put the game out of reach by outscoring the Pride, 7-0, in the fourth quarter. Matt Poskay, who was named as the Bud Light MVP, scored three of his goals during the final 15 minutes while Christmas added a goal with three assists.
Poskay led the Cannons to the victory with five goals while Christmas tallied three goals with four assists. Alrich posted four goals for Boston, who outshot the Pride by a 61-36 margin.
Thomson led the Pride with five goals while Unterstein added two goals with an assist. Rob Scherr made 26 saves, including 10 in the first half, to lead the Pride defense. |
