PISCATAWAY, N.J. – In sports, it only takes one win to get things rolling for a team. The New Jersey Pride can be the latest example of that being true after winning their second straight game, a 10-7 victory over the San Francisco Dragons on Saturday night at Yurcak Field.
After starting the season with three losses in a row, the Pride have won two straight games.
The Pride and the Dragons traded goals to begin the game before the Dragons used three unassisted goals in the second quarter to take a 5-2 lead at the intermission. Five different San Francisco players scored in the opening half.
However, the Pride responded in the third quarter by scoring seven times, including a pair of goals from rookie Jordan Levine, to take a 9-6 advantage with 3:27 remaining in the period. New Jersey scored five of its seven goals in the period in an eight-minute span to overcome a 6-4 deficit.
Matt Rewkowski, who was named as the Bud Light MVP, scored with just under 11 minutes remaining in the fourth quarter to increase the Pride’s advantage to 10-6. With 2:17 remaining, rookie Matt Lalli scored off a pass from Eric Martin to narrow the margin to 10-7, but the Dragons could not get any closer.
Rewkowski scored three goals with two assists to lead New Jersey while Levine and Merrick Thomson each added two goals.
Brendan Loftus led San Francisco with two goals.
