The Game Story:
he Rochester Rattler’s clinched first place in the MLL’s Eastern Conference with a 26-19 victory over the Boston Cannons tonight at PAETEC Park in front of 2585. With the win, Rochester claimed the 2-0 sweep in the season series between the two clubs and extending the current winning streak to three games. As a team, Rochester set a new season high record with 26 goals.

Rochester offensive output was piloted by attackman John Grant who recorded a season high 11 points (7-1-2) to earn Bud Light MVP Player of the Game honors. Mike Levin and Brett Queener combined to make 14 saves for the win for the Rattlers. Mikey Powell led the way for the Cannons with a six-point performance (4 2) while the goalkeepers Kip Turner and Jake Coon earned a combine total of eight saves splitting time between the post for Boston.

Grant opened the scoring early into the contest scoring with a goal 54 seconds into the first quarter. Boston quickly responded with a goal from Tom Zummo to tie the game 1-1. After a two-point tally by Grant and a goal by Joe Walters, Jake Plunkett recorded his first goal of the season giving the Rattlers a 5-2 lead. The quarter ended with Rochester in the lead 8-6.

Fifty seconds into the second quarter, Brett Bucktooth scored an early goal for Rochester soon to be reciprocated by Boston’s Sean Morris making the score 9-7. Rochester then scored five unanswered goals giving them a 14-7 lead. Cannon defenseman Ray Megill scored a two-point goal, tightening the score to 14-11 heading into halftime.

The Rattlers started off the second half strong scoring another five unanswered goals adding to their lead 19-11, two of which came off the stick of Grant. Boston then rallied back with two consecutive goals scored by Mikey Powell. Grant then scored his sixth goal of the game ending the third quarter with a 20-13 lead for Rochester.

Boston opened the final quarter by scoring six goals to return within two goals to make the score 21-19. Rochester secured the win with five goals from Alex Smith, Grant(2), Jeff Zywicki, and Casey Powell.
