The Game Story:
CARSON, Calif. – For Long Island attackman Spencer Ford, Saturday night’s game between the Lizards and the Los Angeles Riptide gave him a chance to renew acquaintances with his former teammates. It also gave him a chance to help the Lizards move into a tie for first place in the Eastern Conferenc with a 19-18 victory at the Home Depot Center.

Tim Goettelmann scored the game-winning goal with 57 seconds remaining to break a 18-18 tie for the Lizards.

After the teams traded goals twice to start the game, Greg Downing scored back-to-back just 49 seconds apart for a 4-2 lead. But, the Lizards responded with three straight goals, including a pair of power-play markers from Chris Fiore, to lead by 5-4 with five minutes left in the first quarter.

The Riptide responded to tie the game at 6-6 by scoring two of the final three goals in the period.

After Peter Vlahakis scored off the opening face-off in the second quarter, the Riptide took a 9-7 lead by scoring three consecutive goals, including a goal and an assist from Michael Watson. The Lizards tied the score at 9-9 before D.J. Driscoll regained the Los Angeles lead with an unassisted marker with 3:35 left.

The Riptide upped their lead to 12-9 early in the second half before the Lizards countered with a two-point goal from John Orsen and a Goettelmann marker to even the score at 12-12. The teams traded goals to end the period, tying the game at 13-13.

Long Island and Los Angeles traded goals five times in the fourth quarter before Goettelmann scored the game-winning tally with less than a minute remaining.

Goettelmann led the Lizards with four goals and an assist while Fiore added a “hat trick.”

Kyle Harrison led Los Angeles with four goals in a losing effort.
