After the teams traded a pair of goals in the opening six minutes, Kevin Leveille scored an unassisted goal to give the Machine a 3-2 lead with 8:18 left in the opening period. However, the Dragons rallied with three straight goals to take a 5-3 advantage less than two minutes into the second quarter.
The teams traded goals twice to end the first half, giving San Francisco a 7-5 lead at the intermission.
Led by two goals from Jake Byrne, including a two-point marker, the Dragons opened the third quarter with four straight points to extend their advantage to 11-5. But, the Machine ended the period with a three-goal spurt of their own to narrow the gap to 11-8.
Lewis Ratcliff scored an unassisted goal just over three minutes into the fourth quarter to give San Francisco a four-point cushion before Leveille and Terry Kimener countered with unassisted markers to narrow the margin to 12-10. Liam Banks and Tim Booth answered to regain the Dragons’ four-point edge.
Led by a goal and an assist from rookie Steven Brooks, the Machine scored four goals in the last six minutes to tie the game and force overtime.
Cranston took a feed from Banks and scored just 49 seconds into the extra period to give the Dragons their first win of the season.
Ratcliff led San Francisco with four goals while Byrne added a “hat trick.”
Leveille scored four goals to lead Chicago in the loss. |
