Leveille Brothers Net 7 Goals in Machine Loss to Bayhawks

Jun 2, 2008 - The brothers Leveille accounted for half of the Chicago Machine’s offensive output Sunday as Tewaaraton Trophy winner Mike Leveille made his MLL debut. Native son Steve Brooks and former Orangeman also started for the machine and notched a pair of goals as did Mike Leveille. Notwithstanding the output of these two new draft pciks, the Machine’s defense faltered in the fourth quarter and let the game slip out fo reach to the Washington Bayhawks who prevailed 18-14. Key here was Chicago’s penchant for penalties, racking up 10 of them and giving Washington the ability to convert on 4 of those 10 extra-man opportunities.

Syracuse Takes Title, 13-10 Over Hopkins

May 26, 2008 - As the clock ran down, Mike Leveille held the ball in his stick, securing Syracuse University’s tenth championship, 13-10 over Johns Hopkins. While the Blue Jays tried to slow down the game, the Orange proved they could succeed playing any style they needed to, prevailing in a hard fought match between these traditional foes. After going 5-8 last season, the 2008 Syracuse squad pulled the unlikely turnaround, taking the title. With revamped offseason workouts and some key changes, the Orange showed that one bad year was just that, and Syracuse is still a collegiate lacrosse power.

The Driving Force

May 23, 2008 - When Paul Rabil is playing his best, he looks like a man among boys. At 6’3”, 225 lbs, he is built more like a strong safety than a middie. His size, strength, and speed make him near impossible to defend. Often, it seems Rabil can get to the cage at will, slicing through defenses as they try double teams, early slides, and malicious pressure, all to no avail.

Gettysburg advances to Final Four, 12-5 over Washington

May 15, 2008 - The Gettysburg Bullets completed their three game sweep of the Washington College Shoremen in an NCAA Quarterfinal match-up that saw the Bullets jump out to a 7-1 halftime lead. Gettysburg was jumpstarted by three first half goals from sophomore attackman Joe Brody. Sophomore midfielder Kyle McGrath is proving that he’s a prime-time player with his second straight hat trick, the first being in Saturday’s 8-7 overtime NCAA tournament thriller against Denison. The Bullets defense held nation’s 27th-ranked offense scoreless for over 26 minutes to start the game. The story for Washington, as can be expected as of late, was the play of goalie Gordon Cohen. While the Bullets were dominating, Cohen stepped up with 16 saves to give the Shoremen a fighting chance. Unfortunately the Shoremen offense couldn’t crack the Bullets defense.
