This Bad Boy set made the cut for three primary reasons.
One, the pads are comfortable and tough enough to pass down to your little brother. We have virtually zero warranty issues with these pads. Two, the stick is strung with HARD mesh. This is critical to the development of younger players. If you want a real "beginner" stick - go to a big box sports store and buy off the shelf. Three, price. For $90 you are in the game with a top name set with a stick that will get them through the critical initial stages. This is one of two of the best starer sets on the market.
