Yeah they have protection but not in the right spots.The plastic thumb guard dosent come down far enough to cover the tip of your thumb and its dosent wrap all around your thumb. With the thumb lock design you cant bend it so your stuck holding your stick in a way that looks like your giving a thumbs up while holding it.Its just begging to be hit. I have these gloves and i have severely messed up my thumb. DO NOT BUY THESE GLOVES EVER!

good gloves but thumb breaks very easily i would reccomend the king ll over these

i think the velcro is there so that when the glove is being broken in when ur thumb bends it brins the plastic w/ it so u dont stretch out the leather or screw up ur gloves any other way (thumb goes under the velcroe)

this is prob one of my favorite gloves for a goalie because, its protective, comfortable and the grip is really nice.

These gloves are amazing. Defenantly worth your money. But there is a little thing you can do to improve your comfort. Simply just remove the stupid string. It makes em' feel amazing. So much better wrist movement you ca do anything.!!!

I would go try both of them on...k18 is a little more bulky on the top but they are extremely flexible and comfy...kings feel like they are much lighter and a bit less protective, they are more form fitting

of seasons to finish my sentence... I had the original k-18 with the plastic goalie thumb that snapped on, which worked for two seasons, until my bottom thumb fell off. these gloves offer decent protection, haven't broken a thumb/hand/finger with these on. getting the new red ones, tried my friend's with the stiff thumb, just not a big fan of the Velcro under the thumbs, but you don't have to tighten them

If you dont like the velcro just take them off. Thats what I did

these gloves saved my thumb many times. I hav used the superfreaks and they are alright... but wen i had defts my thumnb broke 3 times and required surgery. these gloves are the best of the 3

when i took them on my trip to the amazon, they dried up real quick after i went in the swamp. they kept my hands warm at night so by then i was pretty much liking them. but the next morning a snake tried to bite my finger and it actually got into my finger. it had good grip when i strangled the snake with my own 2 gloves.other then that there pretty good gloves

I just broke my hand wearing superfreaks from a shot (80+) to the back of the hand. I know the thumb protection is good but I'm wondering how good the protection is on the fingers and top of hand.

its pretty bulky which is nice and has this plastic thing on the back of the hand (supposed to be for ventilation) but it helps with protection id definitely get them

took a shot to the tip of the thumb going that speed, only a bruise. but if you did get these they are pretty good and the plastic plate on the thumb is useful

yea i know wat ya mean i punched the goal post after screwing up a pass to a possible fastbreak and broke my hand while wearing STX Chopper goalie gloves... just got pair of K18's and they seam pretty good havn't used in game yet

If you have big hands like I do, then don't buy these gloves!!! they are tiny!! I went to a store and tried them on and the fingers were way to short!!! it seems like a lot of the gloves that these companies make are really small...

Just so you know, I was trying on the size 13 and those are what is was talking about.

thses gloves are easily the best gloves ive ever used(ive used super freaks, defts and gladiators). they give you just the right amount of protection. i dont kno what these other clowns are talking about, these things are AMAZING!

It seems to me that every lacrosse brand is too ignorant to make any other goalie glove. so i am asking is this a good buy for a goalie. it seems to me that the thumb is really stiff and it would get in the way. And another thought Why does Warrior not make another goalie glove like they used to. they are really letting me down. i used to think of them as the best brand but now i have second thoughts.

i need new goalie gloves and im not sure if i should get these or buy the regular ones and tape on those thumb guards. i gues what im trying to ask is should i get these or the regular ones?

thses gloves are AMAZING. they dont interfere with cradling or stick handling. the thumbs are a little stiff but that weill go away the more you use them. they are also wicked light so it feels like you dont even have the glove on your hand.

this is the best pair of goalie gloves I've ever played with. You have to get used to the stiff plastic thumb. After some hours playing they do what they should: you feel as if no glove on your hand.
