VICTOR, N.Y.—Hobart College sophomore Bryan Hancock's career-high six points on four goals and two assists led the Statesmen lacrosse team to an 18-11 win over Canisius this afternoon at the Pinnacle Athletic Campus. Hobart improves to 3-4 this season, while the Golden Griffins fall to 2-3. Senior Max Romm added four goals for Hobart. Senior Frank Brown produced four points on two goals and two assists. Sophomore Chris Aslanian logged three points on a goal and two assists and first-year Justin Scott added two goals and an assist. Sophomore Stanny Gilbertson and senior Mark Darden each registered two goals. Junior J Andrew Spallanzani scooped up a game-high six ground balls and won 12 faceoffs for the Statesmen. First-year Sam Mueller notched a game-high three caused turnovers. Connor Kearnan led Canisius with six points on three goals and three assists. Jeff Edwards added a goal and three assists and Mario Caito contributed two goals and an assist. Ryan McKee recorded three goals for the Griffs. Reece Eddy scooped up five ground balls and added two caused turnovers. Holden Garlent and Daniel Balawejder each added five ground balls. The Statesmen jumped out to a four goal lead in the first 8:33. Romm opened the scoring followed by goals by Darden and Brown. Aslanian earned a goal and an assist in the run. The Griffins responded with four goals of their own to tie the game up with 11:30 left in the second quarter. Kearan tallied a goal and two assists in the streak for Canisius. Hobart used its second four-goal run of the game to build an 8-4 lead with 6:19 left in the second. Hancock opened the run with his first of the game off an assist from Brown. Next Brown scored a goal of his own off a feed from senior Tanner John. Unassisted tallies by Scott and Gilbertson gave Hobart their second four-goal advantage of the afternoon. Kearan scored for Canisius with 6:11 left before the break to make the score 8-5 at halftime. Darden opened the second half scoring after a pass from Brown. The Griffs put together three goals to cut their deficit to one at 9-8. However, the Statesmen used a five-goal run to take control of the game. Aslanian connected with Hancock to make it 10-8 and back-to-back goals from Romm and then from Hancock built a 14-8 lead for the Statesmen with 8:58 left in the game. Keirnan found Cato for the Griffs' ninth goal, but first-year Eric Holden answered for Hobart to make it 15-9 with 5:14 remaining. Back-to-back goals by McKee cut the Hobart lead to four with 4:18 to go, but Romm, Gilberston and Scott scored for the Statesmen in the final 2:29 to cap the win. Jackson Brown played all 60 minutes in goal for the Statesmen and made eight saves. Liam Ganzhorn played all but 25 seconds in goal for Canisius and made 10 stops. Hobart held a 51-27 advantage in shots and a 38-29 lead in ground balls. The Griffs logged an 18-14 advantage in faceoffs. Canisius was 15-for-15 on clear attempts and the Statesmen finished 15-for-16.
