BOSTON - Freshman James Burr scored a career-high four goals to help lead the Boston University men's lacrosse team to an 8-5 victory over UMass Lowell on Friday afternoon at Nickerson Field. BU (2-0) scored the final seven goals of the game after facing a 5-1 deficit just 1:10 into the third quarter. Sophomore Greg Farris notched the game-winner with 8:46 remaining in regulation before classmate Jack Wilson tallied the final two markers of the game as part of his four-point day (2g, 2a). Freshman Brendan Homire recorded his first career multi-point game thanks to a pair of assists. Classmate Tristan Ruh collected his first collegiate point with an assist on Farris' winner while juniors Pat Myers and Jack Beall also added an assist apiece. Junior Sam Tenney notched his first goal of the season while classmate Christian Carson-Banister made nine saves in the cage, including six in the first half. Carson-Banister's play in the first half was instrumental in keeping the Terriers in the game. The Terriers turned in another strong day in the faceoff X, with junior Sam Talkow and senior Elliott Burr combining to go 12-of-17. Talkow won 10 of the 15 draws he took and collected a game-high eight ground balls while Burr won both faceoffs he took. For the second straight game, BU won the ground ball battle, collecting 32 to just 23 for the River Hawks. Seventeen different Terriers had a ground ball, with junior Cam Pincus picking up four. All three starting defenders had strong games, with junior Dominick Calisto causing a game-high three turnovers and freshman Quintin Germain recording a caused turnover and a ground ball. Despite the River Hawks having much of the possession in the first quarter, Carson-Banister and the defense held UMass Lowell (0-1) to just two goals in the opening 15 minutes. UML did open up a 3-0 lead early in the second quarter, however, and it took the Terriers until 1:01 remaining in the half to get on the board when Wilson connected with Burr. UMass Lowell scored with eight seconds left in the second quarter and extended its lead to 5-1 early in the third quarter before BU began its comeback. Both of Homire's assists came in a 1:21 stretch when he fed both Burr and Tenney to cut the lead to 5-3. Burr then tallied two more times, including a goal just 1:04 into the fourth quarter to bring BU back to level terms at 5-5. Farris gave the Terriers the lead for good with 8:46 to play when he ripped a shot past Grant Lardieri (8 saves). Wilson finished the game with a pair of markers, including one into a vacant cage after a scramble in front of the crease. The Terriers held the River Hawks to just four shots and three ground balls in the final quarter. Talkow was also terrific at the X in the final 15 minutes, winning four of the five faceoffs he took. It will be a quick turnaround for the Terriers as they travel to High Point for a Tuesday night tilt with the Panthers. Game time is set for
