The St. John’s men’s lacrosse team (0-3) plays host to Saint Joseph’s (0-3) at home on Wednesday afternoon with the first faceoff set for 3 p.m., at DaSilva Memorial Field. Wednesday’s contest marks just the second all-time meeting between the two schools and the first-ever meeting in Queens, N.Y. Senior defensemen Jack McClellan and Kyle Skramko have taken on new roles this year as the pair has switched over to playing primarily at the LSM position as opposed to their stay at close defense last year. The switch has been successful early on in the season with the pair combining for three goals on just 3-of-4 shooting on net. Both possessing great stick skills, the pair has also pulled in 16 groundballs. Fans can catch Wednesday's contest by tuning into Red Storm Sports as Dan Savarino and Sean Keenan will be on the call. Live stats can also be found on Red Storm Sports. SERIES HISTORY: ST. JOHN’S vs. SAINT JOSEPH’S • Last season the Red Storm went down to Philadelphia, Pa., to battle with Saint Joseph’s for the first-ever meeting between the two programs. • The Hawks defeated St. John’s at Sean Sweeney Field by a score of 16-8. LAST TIME OUT: DESPITE QUICK START, ST. JOHN’S UNABLE TO CONTAIN HIGH POINT • Despite scoring four of the game’s first five goals, the St. John’s lacrosse team (0-3, 0-0 BIG EAST) fell to the High Point Panthers (2-2, 0-0 SOCON) on the road on Saturday afternoon in the first-ever meeting between the programs. Freshman attackman Joe Madsen scored the first two goals of his career in the first quarter of Saturday’s contest at Vert Stadium in High Point, N.C. • As has been the norm early in this 2017 campaign, St. John’s opened up the game with a 4-1 lead at the end of the opening frame. The Johnnies improved its first quarter goal differential to +5 on the year. • High Point answered this early St. John’s run with nine unanswered goals to begin the second half. The Panthers would not look back, winning the game 15-6. • J. Madsen led the Red Storm attack with his two goals in the opening frame. He later added an assist for a three-point day. • High Point’s Connor Robinson led the game with his three goals and Michael LeClair added four points on three assists and one goal. • St. John’s struggled with the High Point 10-man ride, which forced the Johnnies into 24 turnovers, 15 of which were caused. SCOUTING THE HAWKS • Although the Hawks sit at 0-3 on the year, Saint Joseph’s has played a tough schedule early on with its first three opponents cracking the top-20 national polls. • Kevin Reidinger leads the Hawks attack with six goals on the year while T.J. Jones mans the net and has totaled 34 saves in three contests. • Saint Joseph’s was predicted to win the 2017 Northeast Conference Title as voted on by the league’s head coaches prior to the season. The Hawks shared the title last spring. • The Hawks return 27 letterwinners from a year ago including 2017 Preseason Inside Lacrosse All-American Honorable Mention T.J. Jones.
