The No. 1 seed Monmouth University men's lacrosse team advanced to its first MAAC Championship Game in program history with an 11-7 victory over No. 4 Detroit Mercy on Friday afternoon at Tenney Stadium at Leonidoff Field. The Hawks extended the nation's longest winning streak to 10 games with their first MAAC Tournament victory. Detroit Mercy scored first, but Monmouth stormed back with four consecutive goals to seize control. The Titans trimmed the Hawks' lead to 5-4 early in the third quarter, but Monmouth responded with four of the next five to put the game out of reach. Sophomore Eamon Campbell scored a hat trick, while seniors Eric Berger and Tyler Keen added two goals apiece. Nick Hreshko made 12 saves in goal for the Hawks. NUMBERS CRUNCH - As a team, Monmouth is outscoring its opponents 106-62 over the nine-game winning streak. - Eamon Campbell extended his goal-scoring streak to eight games with his third career hat trick. Campbell has 20 goals and 13 assists on the year after his four-point effort. - Nick Hreshko made 12 saves in goal for Monmouth. It was the 10th double-digit save performance of the season for Hreshko. Hreshko lowered his 2017 goals-against average to 6.91. - Tyler Keen and Eric Berger each scored twice in the win. Keen has 25 goals on the year after his 11th -career multi-goal game. Berger has nine goals this season, including four against Detroit Mercy. It was Berger's eighth-career multiple-goal game. - Chris Daly scored a goal in the first quarter and has 15 this season and 70 for his career. Daly added an assist to increase his career points total to 97. - Bryce Wasserman extended his points streak to 14 games with one assist. Wasserman now has 41 points this season (27 goals, 14 assists). - Grier Wilson scored his second goal of the year, Dylan Schulte netted his ninth and Justin Schwenk scored his third.
