New Haven, Conn. – Junior middy Stephen Hudak (Rydal, PA) scored a career-high five goals and senior All-American atttackman Dylan Molloy (Setauket, NY) registered four goals and two assists to lift Brown to a 17-15 come-from-behind win over Princeton to gain a berth in the Ivy League Tournament finals. The Bears (10-5, 5-2 Ivy) will face Yale, a 13-12 overtime winner over Penn, on Sunday, May 7 at 12 noon at Yale's Reese Stadium for the Ivy Tournament Championship on ESPNU. The winner of Sunday's Championship game will gain the Ivy League's automatic berth into the NCAA Tournament. Trailing 12-10 with 11:23 left in the game, Brown reeled off seven unanswered goals to take a 17-10 lead. Goals by sophomore Michael Panepinto (Needham, MA)and freshman Luke McCaleb (Chevy Chase, MD) tied the game, 12-12, and Molloy gave the Bears their first lead of the game with a rocket into the back of the net with 7:30 left. Hudak scored his fourth goal for a 14-12 Brown lead, and sophomore Jackson Newsome (Arlington, VA) gave the Bears a three-goal lead, 15-12, on a fast-break pass from junior JJ Ntshaykolo (San Francisco, CA) with 3:29 left on the clock. The scoring onslaught continued with Hudak adding his fifth goal at 2:26 for a 16-12 lead, and a late goal by senior Larken Kemp (Greenwich, CT) gave the Bears a 17-12 advantage. Both teams had to navigate the field conditions with the game being played in a steady rain with standing water throughout, including in front of the goal at one end of the field. Molloy, the 2016 Tewaaraton Award recipient, returned to the lineup after missing Brown's last two games, registered six points and tied the Brown all-time scoring record of 316 career points by Darren Lowe '92 that seemed to be insurmountable a short time ago. Molloy is the NCAA's third all-time leading goal scorer with 195 career goals, and ranks sixth in all-time NCAA points with 316 career points (195 goals, 121 assists). Panepinto had three goals and McCaleb two goals for the Bears. Freshman goalie Phil Goss (San Francisco, CA) turned in a phenomenal performance, keeping the Bears in the game by making a career-high 20 saves, including 18 through the first three quarters. Up until the fourth quarter, Princeton's Zach Currier was the dominant player on the field, giving the Tigers extra possessions by winning 21-of-34 face-offs and picking up a game-high 16 ground balls. Michael Sowers scored four goals and added an assist for the Tigers, while Gavin McBride and Austin Sims netted three goals each. Tigers' goalie Tyler Blaisdell made 17 saves. Overall, Princeton held a 43-25 advantage in ground balls, mostly in face-offs, and capturing the majority of 50-50 balls. The Bears fell behind by a 4-1 margin midway through the opening quarter following a goal by Princeton's McBride. Panepinto scored his second goal of the game and Hudak scored with 1:57 left to cut the Tigers lead to 4-3 after one quarter. The two teams exchanged goals in the second quarter with Riley Thompson and Sowers scoring twice for the Tigers and Hudak, McCaleb and Molloy netting goals for the Bears to trail 7-6 with 1:00 left in the half. Incredibly, Brown trailed by just one at the half despite losing 12 of 15 face-offs. Goss also kept the Bears in the game by making 12 first-half saves. The exchange continued with Currier scoring at 12:24 and Molloy for the Bears answering just over a minute later to trail, 8-7. Princeton got back-to-back goals from Sims and Charlie Durbin to pull ahead 10-7, but the Bears came back once again. Molloy, freshman Jack Kniffin (Darien, CT) and Hudak scored for the Bears to knot the score, 10-10, after third quarters. The shootout continued with Durbin scoring consecutive goals for a 12-10 Princeton lead.
