Walker and Goldman each scored two goals in the first 10 minutes of the third quarter as the Hoyas (8-0) scored the first five goals of the quarter to extend from a 7-3 halftime lead to a 13-4 lead after three quarters. The Greyhounds (5-4) got behind 3-0 early on and never led in losing their third straight game for the first time since the 1996 season. Georgetown, which defeated Loyola for the second straight year, led just 3-2 after Stephen Brundage scored for the Greyhounds with 3:05 elapsed in the second quarter. But the Hoyas then scored the next three goals in a three-minute span, including a goal apiece from Hammer and Jordan Vettoretti, to take a 6-2 lead with 3:58 left in the first half. Vettoretti, Walker and Goldman all scored three goals for the Hoyas, who outshot Loyola 46-22, including 22-9 in the first half. Nick Miaritis scored twice and added an assist for Georgetown, which also won 13 of the game's 21 faceoffs and controlled 41 groundballs to just 25 for Loyola. Brundage and Chris Summers each scored twice for Loyola, which had just 11 of its 22 shots find the goal. Mark Bloomquist had seven of his 11 saves in the second half as the Hoyas outshot the Greyhounds 24-13 in the final 30 minutes. The Greyhounds finished just 15-for-25 on clearing attempts for the game, including 6-for-13 in the first half. Hammer's goal midway through the second quarter that made the score 5-2 came on a errant Loyola clearing pass, while Vettoretti's goal with 44 seconds on the second-quarter clock also came as a result of a failed clear.

Georgetown (8-0), which remains the only unbeaten D1 team in men’s lacrosse, breezed past a stagnated Loyola (5-4) offense with a complete team effort that showcased a wide range of Hoya scorers and consistent play from all parts of the defense. Loyola’s troubles continue as this amounted to their third loss in as many outings, while Georgetown continues to build on a storybook season. Also of note, Georgetown’s All-American Kyle Sweeney tied Hoya’s assistant coach Scott Urick’s record for career ground balls with 224.

Georgetown started the game off netting the first three goals. The first in this series came from Neal Goldman when he took a feed from Walid Hajj, and after hitting Loyola’s goalie Mark Bloomquist on the shoulder, it fell in for the 1-0 lead. sophomore Nick Miaritis scored the second on a hard cut down the middle. The third and final goal of the initial Hoya run came from senior Captain Trevor Walker when he netted a lefty rip. Loyola answered with only :16 left in the first quarter, cutting the Georgetown lead to two.

The second quarter was host to a pace of play that was similar to that in the first quarter. Although there was a hint of offensive vivacity at the start of the quarter for the Greyhounds, as junior Stephen Brundage ripped a grounder that Hoya net-minder Rich D’Andrea was able to slow but not stop, Georgetown continued to build on its lead. Again, another three goal Hoya run was responsible for the increased lead. As Kyle Sweeney has done all year, he stripped the ball from his offensive counterpart and started a fast break. After two passes, classmate and fellow defenseman Pat Collins found Jordan Vettoretti for the fast break goal. Mike Hammer scored his first of two goals on a broken clear, as Bloomquist was caught backpedaling, unable to make any stop. The next score came from Georgetown’s Mike Boynton. His score was evidence of a less than aggressive Loyola defense which allowed him to set up and shoot with out much of an effort to stop him. Finally Loyola showed the 1600-plus crowd what they had been waiting for when Brundage caught Georgetown’s defense sleeping and connected with Chris Summers on the back side pipe for the goal. The Greyhound’s score cut the Hoya lead to three, with the scoreboard reading 6-3. The final goal of the half again belonged to Walker on a similar shot to what he had previously scored on. Georgetown’s 7-3 halftime should be attributed to their offensive production, as Georgetown out-shot the Greyhounds 22-9 in the first 30 minutes.

The third quarter was the most one-sided of the four as the Hoyas outscored Loyola 6-1. Walker and Goldman took part in five of the six goals. Walker started the scoring only a minute and half into the third and was followed less than a minute later by a Vettoretti score. Three Georgetown goals later Loyola had its lone goal of the quarter. It came from Brundage off a feed from fellow attackman Chris Summers, but proved insignificant on a larger scale. Georgetown’s Kevin Shooshan added the final goal of the quarter with only :07 left to bring the quarter to a close with a dominating 13-4 Hoya lead.

The final quarter saw lots of new faces in the game, as many of the reserves fulfilled the on the field duties. Miaritis scored the only Hoya goal while Loyola’s Gunnar Goettelmann was credited with Loyola’s last goal, coming on a man-up situation with only 0:50 seconds remaining. This contest clearly belonged to the Hoyas from the start. Even Loyola’s own Coach Dirrigl characterized the Hoya play as “bullying” his team by use of their “tremendous athleticism.” Sweeney, while hesitant to call this their best game of the year, was quick in saying that it was their “best effort”. It was clear that the Hoyas were prepared physically and mentally for anything the Greyhounds brought to Washington.
