Cannons Acquire Millon

Cannons Acquire Millon
press release March 8, 2005

Boston, MA (March 8, 2005) - The Boston Cannons of Major League Lacrosse (MLL) announced that they have acquired the MLL's all-time leading point scorer, attackman Mark Millon from the Baltimore Bayhawks according to Head Coach and Director of Player Personnel Scott Hiller. In exchange the Cannons sent goaltender Trevor Tierney and the fourth overall pick in the 2005 MLL Collegiate Draft to the Bayhawks. Millon is the MLL's career leader in points with 249 in 52 career games. Millon was the MLL's Warrior Offensive Player of the Year twice, in 2002 and 2003.

"We have a responsibility to our fans to be as competitive as possible each season," said Hiller. "We want to win a championship and the addition of Mark puts us in a great position to do so. Mark is one of the best offensive players in the the sport, and continues to be one of the MLL's best conditioned athletes. He is a great addition to this team."

Millon is one of the most decorated offensive players in the history of the MLL. He has been a MLL All-Star and/or All-MLL Team member in each of his four seasons with the Bayhawks. Millon led Baltimore in points in each of those four seasons with the team. He has scored a goal in 24 straight regular season games, including all 12 in the 2004 season. He finished second in the league in points in 2004 behind Cannons attackman and MLL MVP Conor Gill.

"Teaming Mark and Conor puts two generations of outstanding players on the same field," said Hiller. "Mark's finishing skills combined with Conor's passing abilities will make for the deadliest attack combination in the MLL. Those two combined with all of our other offensive talent will make the Cannons very tough to stop.

In addition to an outstanding MLL career, Millon was a standout on both the collegiate and international levels. Millon was a three time All-American at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst, earning first-team honors in his junior and senior seasons. He graduated in 1993. He is also a two-time member of the US National team, earning MVP honors at the 1994 World Championship and the Best Attackman award at the 1998 World Championship.

Trevor Tierney was traded to the Cannons on July 14, 2004. He appeared in two games for Boston, starting one during the Cannons run to the New Balance MLL Championship game. The Cannons no longer have a first round selection in the 2005 MLL Collegiate Draft. Boston retains five total picks in the draft.

Do the bayhawks notice that in the last 2 years now after giving up Cattrano to philly and now Millon they are throwing out all the good players on the team. plus now it makes the attack weaker if they kept him that first line would have killed. it would have been maracheck, millon, and powell. but no they have to get Trevor who is okay, but didn't even get the starting job in boston, they better keep Scherr in the cage if they want to win.

I am very disapointed about this trade. You take one of the best attackmen ever and trade him for a back-up goalie. What is wrong with scherr. The Bayhawks had the perfect formula for a championship run Million, Maracheck and Powell. Oh yeah, and some guy called Gary Gait (being sarcastic). Being an short attackmen I enjoyed watching Millon play. His quickness and speed is unbelieveable at his age. I hope the GM, Owners, the coaching staff and players take a good long look in the mirror, because this will come back to hurt them, now they have to worry about milion and gill now. I wish him all the best and thanks for the years in B-More.

Trading Millon to the Cannons really screwed up the Baltimore lineup. But Bostons attack line is gonna be sick, they have Watson, Gill and now Millon, I think that the Cannons are gonna win the championship this year. The Bayhawks I dont think will make it to the championship but if they do it will be them and the cannons, that would be a good game.

Mark Millon basically changed the sport of lacrosse he is probaly the most talented player playing in the mll in exception to the powells and jesse hubbard. its beyond me how the baltimore bayhawks who obviously needed him to run there offense. i don't know if i can see what they are doing trying to improve there defense with a goalie i might understand a little bit if they got two decent long-pole players for him but a goalie? i don't know about you but that doesn't seem right....reply and tell me what you think!
