Maryland ties Syracuse to end pre-season
by JoeLax44 on February 19, 2006

Both the Maryland Terps and the Syracuse Orange ended the pre-season today in a 7-7 tie. The scrimmage, which was slated to be played in New York, was switched to be played at Maryland.

Both teams' season openers are next Saturday, February 25th. Syracuse opens against Army at home, while Maryland plays at Navy. Apologies for the lack of notes as the photographer was short on time.

COLLEGE PARK, MD. -- Junior midfielder Steven Brooks scored three goals, while senior attackman Brett Bucktooth added two goals as the Syracuse men's lacrosse team tied Maryland, 7-7, in the Orange's final scrimmage of the season. SU got off to a quick 4-0 start against the Terps, a team that reached the national semifinals a season ago and is currently ranked third in the nation according to the first Inside Lacrosse Media Poll released Feb. 13. SU was ranked No. 5 in the poll.

Also scoring goals for the Orange included senior Brian Crockett and sophomore Steve Babbles. Redshirt freshman Pete Coluccini started in goal for Syracuse and made six saves during the first two quarters. Sophomore Jake Myers played the second half and also stopped six shots.

After the quick start in the first quarter, Maryland outscored SU, 3-1, in the second period, 3-2 in the third, and 1-0 in the fourth.

Syracuse and Maryland improvement
by quakerlaxattack2 (#111206) on 2/20/06 @4:52PM
Looks like Syracuse is going to go into the 2006 season with a whole new team in terms of there play. They are a large step up from last years dissapointing season and it seems very likely that Syracuse fans will see another run to the final four along with the magic number back on the field. There freshman are impressive and played pretty well in this game. Yevoli will help a lot too. Maryland also looks great, they are returning most of last years starters including walters, mcglone and alford. Look for Maryland and Syracuse to have very good seasons this year and most likely a meeting in the final four. It is shaping up to be another great season.
