The Game Story:

ROCHESTER, N.Y.. (March 11, 2006) -- Visiting Geneseo took an early lead and never looked back as the Blue Knights defeated Nazareth, 12-9, in a non-conference game Saturday.

With the loss, Nazareth evens its record to 1-1 overall while Geneseo improves to 2-0. It was just the second win for the Blue Knights over the Golden Flyers in school history and the first since 1987.

Seniors Greg Kanellis and Ryan Maciaszek each scored two goals for the Golden Flyers. Junior Ryan Hotaling added a goal and two assists, and senior Chris Balash added a goal and an assist.

Geneseo took a 2-0 lead in the first quarter on unassisted goals by Brian Orlowski and Colin Ireland. Nazareth evened the game at two goals by Conor O'Keefe and Greg Kanellis.

The Blue Knights, who never trailed in the game, scored four consecutive goals to open up the second quarter. The Golden Flyers stormed back with four of their own to tie the game at 6-6 early in the third quarter. The two teams traded goals before Geneseo took the lead for good scoring two goals one minute apart with just two minutes left in the third quarter to go up 9-7.

Geneseo struck again three minutes into the fourth quarter before Nazareth rallied with goals from Maciaszek and Greg Kanellis for a 10-9 Blue Knight advantage. Geneseo cushioned its lead as Rick Bova scored the game-winner at 2:47. Owahn Bazydlo secured the Blue Knight victory with his second goal of the game 1:23.

Mike Pizutto finished the game with three goals and two goals for Geneseo while Bazydlo and Ireland each contributed two goals and one assist. Goalkeeper Tim Barback turned out an impressive performance as he posted 13 saves.

Nazareth's Alex Civalier made nine saves in the loss. The Golden Flyers will compete against Clarkson on Monday, March 13 at Sylvan Lake Park in Orlando, Fla. Game time is set for 10 a.m. Nazareth closes out its spring break schedule with a second non-conference game against Bowdoin on Thursday, March 16 at 3 p.m.
