Washington, D.C. - Sophomore Andrew Baird (Baltimore, Md./Loyola Blakefield) recorded his second-straight hat trick and No. 5 Georgetown held one of the nation's top goal-scoring offenses to five as the Hoyas posted a 9-5 win over No. 8 Navy at Navy-Marine Corps Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

The Hoyas win their seventh-straight game and improve to 7-1 overall, while the Midshipmen fall to 7-2 overall.

Georgetown led by only one at half, 3-2, but scored five goals in the third quarter, to take a commanding 8-3 lead. Baird scored the final two of the third quarter and added the team's only score of the fourth in the win.

The Hoyas jumped on top of Navy early in the third quarter, with senior middie Dave Paolisso (Ellicott City, Md./Centennial) taking a feed from senior attackman Sean Denihan (Manhasset, N.Y./Manhasset), increasing the lead to 4-2 just over a minute into play. Georgetown scored its second-straight goal when junior Trevor Casey (Bethesda, Md./Georgetown Prep) sent a pass to junior Garret Wilson (Ardmore, Pa./Episcopal Academy), whose shot beat Navy goalie Matt Russell at 10:46. About two minutes later, at 8:42, the Hoyas added a third-straight goal when junior Danny Nolan (Manhasset, N.Y./St. Mary's) tallied an unassisted goal.

The game was scoreless for nearly seven minutes until Navy pulled to within three goals when Tommy Wallin scored with 1:51 left to play. Baird, however, scored the first of his three goals with 41 seconds left on an assist from Wilson. Nineteen seconds later, sophomore Brendan Cannon (Haverford, Pa./The Haverford School) fed Baird for his second goal, giving the Hoyas an 8-3 lead.

Cannon fed Baird for the second-straight time, with 9:32 left to play in the game, giving the Hoyas a 9-3 lead. Navy scored two more goals - both from Ian Dingman - but it was not enough as the Hoyas held on for the big road win.

The Hoyas had jumped out to a 2-0 lead after the first quarter. Paolisso started things with an unassisted marker at 11:08 and then, with 4:48 to play, freshman Jake Samperton (Bethesda, Md./Landon School) fed Casey for a goal. Navy scored back-to-back goals in the second quarter, with Steve Looney tallying the first at 13:33 and then Jon Birsner scoring at 5:42 to tie the game. Georgetown was able to take a 3-2 lead into the half when Casey fed Brendan Cannon for a score with 20 seconds left.

Navy out-shot Georgetown, 40-37, while the Hoyas had 37 ground balls to the Middies' 36. Junior Christiaan Trunz (Manhasset, N.Y./Chaminade) won 8-of-17 face-offs against Navy's William Wallace, who ranked among the top-10 in the country in the category.

The Hoyas defense held Navy's top two-leading scorers - Dingman and Birsner - to a combined three goals and one assist. The game featured the return of Rich D'Andrea (Belle Mead, N.J./Peddie School), who started in place of Miles Kass (Rye, N.Y./Hotchkiss). D'Andrea, a three-year starter and second-team All-ECAC pick, returned to the Hilltop for his fifth year as a defensive midfielder. He started in place of Kass today, made 11 saves and had six ground balls.

Georgetown returns to action next weekend, visiting Fairfield for the second of three-straight road games. The Hoyas and the Stags will face off at 1 p.m. on Saturday, April 8.
