CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA -- The Virginia Cavaliers and Navy Midshipmen men's lacrosse teams faced off in a spring scrimmage at the University of Virginia's University Hall Turf Field in Charlottesville, VA on Saturday, February 2, 2008. Navy started the early scoring, with goals in the game from midfielder Patrick Moran (#13), midfielder Joe Lennon (#28), midfielder Jaren Woeppel (#45) and midfielder Zach Schroder (#51). The Cavaliers answered with several goals of their own coming from the sticks of midfielder Shamel Bratton (#1), his brother midfielder Rhamel Bratton (#3), attackman Gavin Gill (#4), attackman Garrett Billings (#19), and attackman Tim Fuchs (#38). Both teams rotated their benches in the scrimmage, giving playing time to most players.

Navy and UVA play each other in the regular season
by Naptown Fan (#136419) on 2/03/08 @1:12PM
And this will be great for Navy, no matter what the outcome is. Why? Because what has hurt Navy in the past in big regular season games and in the tournament is that they often didn't play a very tough schedule. Of course, being in the Patriot League, they will always automatic play a few easy teams. But, if Navy keeps playing stronger OOC schedules, I think it will really help. In addition to UVA, I believe Navy has added UMBC, which will really help, too.

Ryan Moran took over OC duties; Navy does not play UVA or UMBC during the regular season.

Score?

Very good to hear UVa bringing the pain. Navy sounds like they're going to be pretty good this year. This makes me feel better about UVa being a younger team this year with Senior leaders. Anyone know the final score of this one?

I think both of these teams are going to do very well this year. In fact, I say that the Tewarton Awards top 2 candidates will be A Matt Danowski of Duke and A Ben Rubeor of UVA. In fact, it could be a dead-even-dogfight throughout most of the season. By the way, is that awesome freshman goalie from Long Island going to be the starter? Some people have called him the best goalie to come out of Long Island in years!
