The Game Story:

DENVER – The No. 19 University of Denver men’s lacrosse team outscored Brown, 6-3 in the final half for the 11-8 win on Saturday afternoon in the Eighth Annual Face-Off Classic.

“I was proud of our effort today,” head coach Jamie Munro said. “Brown is a physical team and they played very well. The Bears are a well coached team and it showed today. We fought hard and played our best game of the year today.

Trailing 5-4 to begin the second half of play Denver knotted the game on an unassisted goal by senior Jon Paulson (Flemington, N.J.) at 12:12 in the third. Sophomore Charley Dickenson (Dallas, Texas) gave DU the lead at 8:34 in the third.

Denver’s offensive onslaught continued as junior Cliff Smith (Surrey, B.C.) found freshman Jamie Lincoln (St. Cathariens, Ontario), giving DU the 7-5 lead.

In the fourth, Dickenson notched his second goal of the game at 13:14, giving DU a three-goal advantage and sophomore Ilija Gajic (Burnaby, B.C.) scored just over a minute later for the Pioneers.

The Pioneers (2-3) doubled up the Bears when Smith recorded his first goal of the game at 11:15.

Brown (1-2) ended its scoring drought of nearly 26 minutes when Jack Walsh scored on an assist from Andrew Feinberg.

The Bears would record another goal before freshman Emerson Eichler (New Vernon, N.J.) scored.

Sophomore Dillon Roy (Denver, Colo.) and junior Joey Murray (Denver, Colo.) also recorded goals for the Pioneers in the game.

Smith was the Pioneers’ leading scorer with four points in the game on one goal and three assists, while Dickenson, Murray and Lincoln had two goals each.

Walsh led the Bears with two goals and two assists in the game.

Penn defeated Air Force, 13-10, earlier in the day.

The Face-Off Classic concludes on Sunday, March 9 at 11 a.m. when Brown and Air Force square off. DU will take on Penn at 1:30 p.m.
