The Game Story:
ITHACA, N.Y. -- The fourth-ranked men’s lacrosse team scored 1:23 into overtime to come up with the win over third-ranked Cortland. Senior attack Matt Nelligan (Pingree School/Rowley, Mass.) scored the game-winning goal, off a pass from classmate Logan Bobzien (Arapahoe/Centennial, Colo.).

Ithaca snapped a five-game losing streak to Cortland and remained undefeated, improving to 7-0 on the season. The win over the third-ranked Red Dragons marked the highest ranked opponent Ithaca has ever defeated.

Junior goalie Ben Connery (Homer/Homer) recorded a career-high 16 saves in his fifth win of the season. Connery made six of his 16 saves in the fourth quarter.

The Bombers started the game with a man-up goal at 12:39 from junior Alec Siefert (Duxbury/Duxbury, Mass.), and Cortland responded with a man-up goal at 10:54. The two teams traded goals and Ithaca led 6-5 at the half after another man-up goal at 1:01 from sophomore Nic Heckman (Sparta/Sparta, N.J.). The teams both scored two goals in the third, and the Red Dragons recorded the only goal of the fourth quarter at 9:37. Ithaca won the face off in overtime and retained possession until Nelligan’s goal.

Nelligan led the Bombers with three goals and one assist, while Bobzien had one goal and three assists. Senior Craig Lepiane (West Irondequoit/Rochester) recorded two goals and an assist in the game, and Heckman tallied a goal and two assists for Ithaca.

The Bombers return to action on Wednesday with an Empire 8 matchup against St. John Fisher at 4 p.m.
