The Game Story:
CORTLAND, N.Y. – Senior Ryan Heath (Baldwinsville/C.W. Baker) scored a career-high 10 points on five goals and five assists and 12 different players overall scored goals as the nationally fifth-ranked Cortland men’s lacrosse team defeated 11th-ranked Nazareth, 21-5, Wednesday afternoon at the SUNY Cortland Stadium Complex. With his five goals, Heath became the 16th player in Red Dragon history to reach 100 career goals.

Senior Adam Hyde (West Seneca/West Seneca East) also hit a milestone for the Red Dragons (6-1). He scored three points on a pair of goals and an assist and became the 39th player in school history to surpass 100 career points (84 goals, 17 assists). Senior Billy Fuchs (Merrick/Sanford H. Calhoun) recorded two goals and two assists, junior Joey Morgan (Putnam Valley) had two goals and an assist and sophomores Chris Dutkowsky (Vestal) and Brandon Misiaszek (New Hartford) contribute two goals each. Junior goalie Mike Robinson (Alexandria, VA/Thomas Edison) made six saves in 45 minutes, 42 seconds before giving way to freshman Tom Holden (Corning/Corning East), who stopped one shot and did not allow a goal in the final 14:18.

Senior Aaron Civalier (Rochester/Penfield) led the Golden Flyers (5-3) with a pair of goals. Senior Steve Cutia (Cortland) added a goal and an assist and sophomore Erinn O’Hara (Camillus/Salisbury (CT)) and freshman Corey Remoli (Asbury, NJ/Voorhees) scored one goal apiece. Senior Anthony Desimone (Clayton/Immaculate Heart) registered 12 saves in the game.

Cortland opened up a 5-0 lead after the first quarter, scoring all of its goals in a 3:08 span, with Heath picking up two goals and two assists. The Red Dragons stretched it to a 9-0 advantage with 4:11 left in the second quarter before Civalier broke the Nazareth drought with his first goal at 3:18. Heath and Remoli traded goals to make it a 10-2 Cortland lead at intermission.

The third quarter was much of the same as Cortland strung together six straight goals and led 16-2 at the 7:14 mark with Heath netting the 100th of his career off an assist from senior Josh Cittadino (Baldwin) to end the run. The Golden Flyers closed out the quarter by scoring three of the last four goals but still trailed 17-5 with 15 minutes remaining. The Red Dragons scored the game’s final four goals as Cortland emptied its bench in the fourth quarter.

Cortland outshot Nazareth, 43-31, in the game, won 18-of-29 faceoffs and converted all four of its man-up opportunities, while the Golden Flyers went 0-for-6 on their chances.
