This week's Lax.com High School Game of the Week found us in Mtn Lakes, NJ for the much anticipated #1 vs #2 battle of perennial Jersey powerhouses. Delbarton blew up the 3rd quarter to take an 11-5 lead, and finished out the game with a 12-7 win over the Lakers.

goalie

Neither goalie in this game looked like they were one of the top goalies in the nation, even D1 prospects, but personally i think the Mtn Lakes goalie was better

agreed. but then again, they didnt show many saves by the Delbarton goalie. I dont kno if they still have him, but last year or the year before they had a goalie named Adam Tourgee who was very good. I don't think this is the same kid. Mountain Lakes goalie certainly had some good saves in there, some of which seemed like they were partly luck or bad placement on Delbarton's part.

Delbarton
by shorelax14 (#187686) on 4/17/08 @9:54PM
Delbarton is definitely the best team in the nation. Billy Hurley, their goalie, had an amazing game and their defense played amazing. The juniors stepped up also with Doherty and Sawyer.

False, delbarton is definately not the best team in the nation. they may be undefeated but they haven't had competition even close to top 25 in the nation and they are pulling off close victories. they won by 1 in one of their games to team not in the top 50. think before you speak.

Excuse me but do you even know what your talking about? Loyola the #1 team in the country lost to Haverford and Delbarton demolished them. The score was 8-5 but if you actually watched it youd see that haverford got their last 2 goals in the end cuz all the seniors were in. Also they killed Mountain Lakes so please go get your facts straight before you start calling me out

Dont get me wrong, I'm a Delbarton fan big time (I'll be a student there next year), but I hate when people compare teams by saying that "Well since Team A beat Team B and Team C beat Team B, Team C must be the best." It just doesnt work that way. If that was true, Georgetown would be one of the best teams in D1 cuz they beat Duke. Undoubtedly tho, I will back you up in saying that Delbarton easily makes top 10 in the nation.

Delbarton Is Solid, But Not That Great
by shocks (#1383) on 4/17/08 @11:22PM
And Loyola already has 2 losses (one to a Colorado team), Haverford has 4. How in the world are you calling Loyola the #1 team in the country? They're not even the best team in Baltimore.

loyola isnt the number one team in the nation, but dont go ripping teams from colorado...colorado has the best in the west, and four or five teams able to compete, and beat, high ranked teams in the east.

Delbarton
by watchyaback (#195883) on 4/17/08 @11:52PM
without a doubt top 3 team in the country..Ridgewood the team they lost by 1 to is a top ten team in the country, lakes they beat handidly is a top 30 team, haverford who beat loyola whos lost to and beat the best teams in maryland and elsewhere...for the past couple of years that delbarton has been playing chaminade and st anthonys they have never lost to either team, beat fairfield prep handidly in a scrimmage..we'll see saturday but this team is nasty and although lakes may not seem that great on here they are disgusting(killed shoreham wading river NY class c? champs i think)..

Top 10 in what sport?
by Ian Peter Freelee (#188060) on 4/18/08 @1:42PM
Did I just read that correctly? Did you write Ridgewood was a top 10 in the nation team? They are lucky if they are top 3 in their county, at most number 2, behind DBP.

Delbarton and Lakes are two very talented teams, but I don’t think they showed it in this game. Delbarton took a big hit, when last years seniors graduated.

What schools are some of these players going to?

Well the McBrides were a big factor in their attack. I believe Chris and Jack McBride now play for Princeton if i'm not mistaken. One of them was the rookie of the week in the recent D1 report.

top five definitely, top 3? maybe not
by ttlaxer (#76010) on 4/18/08 @1:44PM
delbarton is definitely a top 5. team they're really good with some top seniors and juniors. but you gotta take into account the other great teams out there like west islip, manhasset, gilman, calvert hall, and lafayette. its always tough to gauge high school sports, but when you have to you do it you've gotta put the teams in the harder conferences in the top spot. teams in the good NY leagues and the MIAA in MD.

by watchyaback (#195883) on 4/21/08 @11:27AM
they lost to delbarton by 1 goal, in a game where ridgewood looked like the better team, ridgewood lead the whole game until the last two minutes, and most of delbartons goals came off fast breaks and man ups..Ridgewoods best defensmen(ben petraglia-umass) got injured and alex white who had no to that point scored two in the 4th period..their second loss was to chatham who is undefeated at this point and many people are saying they are without a doubt the best team in the state..

 (1) A loss is a loss, at the end of the year it comes down to how you did. This is not horseshoes or hand grenade when coming close is good.

(2) Best team in the state? What the state of delusion? (1) Green Wave (2) Chatham (3) Lakes (4) Ridgewood…they have lost 2 games
