Offensive Player Of The Week - Brandon Corp (Colgate)

Corp dominated play this past weekend during the Patriot League Tournament. Against Navy on Friday, he led the Raiders to a 12-9 victory, notching five goals and adding an assist. As big a day he had on the stat sheet, his overall impact on the game was even bigger, as Navy did not have an answer to stopping the two-time Patriot League Offensive Player Of The Year. On Sunday, Colgate became the first team in four years other than Navy to win the Patriot League Championship. Corp was silky smooth in the 13-9 win over Bucknell, hitting the back of the net three times, and adding two helpers. Corp set a Patriot League Championship scoring record with eight goals and three assists, rinning his season totals to 38 goals and 15 assists. Not a bad weekend for #12.

Defensive Player Of The Week - Matt Bocklet (Johns Hopkins)

The senior defenseman was all over Homewood Field last Wednesday on Senior Night during a 16-7 victory over cross-town rival Towson. Bocklet assisted Mike Doneger's second goal of the game and grabbed a game-high 10 ground balls. Bocklet was masterful with his stick against the Tigers, scooping many groundballs in traffic, which led to offensive opportunities for the Blue Jays. Bocklet also had his way with many Tiger offensive players, stripping those who attempted to initiate offense against him. He fueled a defense that killed seven of nine extra-man opportunities for the Tigers. Bocklet is one of the most well-rounded defenders in the country. He is great on the wings of faceoffs, can shut down attackmen, and starts the Hopkins’ fast break.

Rookie Of The Week - Jamie Lincoln (Denver)

Amazing that this first-year midfielder has not received this award prior to this week. The St. Cathariens, Ontario native has taken the Great Western Lacrosse League by storm. On Saturday, he lit up Air Force for five goals, extending his Denver University single season goal record to 42. Granted Lincoln had extensive lacrosse experience prior to arriving at Denver (the 21 year-old played in the Minto Cup in Canada). However, scoring that many goals from the midfield while attracting long-pole attention from the opposition since the early stages of the season is an insane feat for even a senior. Lincoln has a tremendous knack for scoring and is a tough player who is willing to sell out to find the back of the net. Lincoln is certainly worthy of All-American honors this year in only his first season at DU.

Navy
by FE21 (#1248) on 4/29/08 @12:41PM
I know Navy might not deserve to get in this year, but this list has two teams Navy beat (Ohio St and MD) getting at large bids as well as 2 teams they lost to in OT (Cornell and Georgetown) Seems to me if they are good enough to beat two of those at large teams and good enough to go to OT with two others they should be good enough to get in.

Army?!?!?!
by LeeMLB06pmi (#167078) on 4/29/08 @12:54PM
I think this is really disappointing for army that they didn't make it again this year. After a real quality wins over Navy and Hofstra among others and probably the closest win duke had all season, I think everybody agrees that they deserved a bid, especially when a team like cornell got in over them.

I don't disagree that it's disappointing that Army didn't get in. They had a very good season and played everyone tough. But I don't think they deserve a bid over a Cornell team that I think is better than them, beat them when they played and has a better record with a schedule that probably equally as tough.

They killed their chance
by PALax11 (#118964) on 4/30/08 @2:15PM
I would have liked to see Army in it as well, but they killed their chances by losing the AQ to Colgate. But props to Colgate for surpassing some tough Army/Navy teams, and a decent Bucknell, to capture the bid.

I give honorable mention this season to Army and Denver.

Hofstra, Albany, and Delaware were a little disappointing this year — each lost some really close games that needed to be theirs.

Providence!!
by g.herndon (#80165) on 4/29/08 @10:28PM
I truly don't understnad why providence gets a bid to the tourney. I believe its an automatic thing but i am not sure. If so they need to change it cause they are consistantly awful and definately not top 16 in the nation

Providence's bid
by Zach Babo (#93833) on 4/30/08 @11:04AM
Providence was picked to win the MAAC, and in doing so they would receive an automatic qualifying bid. All conferences with at least six teams garner an AQ. The MAAC meets these qualifications, and thus, regardless of how the teams typical fair in the postseason, Providence, or some other MAAC team, will get a spot in the tourney, probably playing in the 1-16 seed game.

Oh, wow, i didn't actually know this, thank you , but its a shame that they get a bid when such other teams are left out who deserve a spot. o well i guess its just politics.

CAA Tourney
by AceMcCloud (#196468) on 4/30/08 @6:05PM
I'm liking Drexel and Hofstra in the finals. Hofstra has got a harder road to the caa champs as they must first get by Delaware, who are barely limping into the tourney. After all is said and done, drexel gets the AQ into the ncaa's.

Group of 4
by whr27 (#28787) on 5/02/08 @8:49PM
I agree with most of the teams getting in, except we know now that VMI or Canisius will represent the MAAC. If VMI wins, they go to Duke; if Canisius wins, they go to Syracuse. One aspect of the tournament that I have noticed in the past few years is how the Committee groups 4 teams together that have never been to a Final Four, or haven't gone in a long time. For instance, in 2006, Hofstra, Providence, Cornell, and UMass were seeded so one of those teams would make the Final Four, which was UMass. Last year, Cornell, Towson, Albany, and Loyola were seeded together, with Cornell going to the Final Four. With this year's rankings, I wouldn't be surprised (as crazy as this might sound) if these 4 teams were seeded together: UNC, UMBC, the Drexel/Hofstra winner, and Georgetown.
