Gvozden and Bocklett
by (#103345) on 5/25/08 @2:50PM
I realize these are based on the season, but Gvozden should at least have gotten honorable mention, the way he shut down duke.
Bocklett should have been first team. You can't even argue against that.

Agree ... I was suprised too that Bocklett is just a third-team AA. Every time I've seen Hopkins play over the past two months, Bocklett has been Hopkins' defensive stud, and it's the defensive turn-around that's most responsible for them getting to the finals, right? How is this guy not first-team? I've never seen the dude from Brown play but is he better than Hopkins' best D-guy who's been dominating top D-I talent every week?

Bocklet
by (#76067) on 5/25/08 @8:45PM
Bocklet owns everybody. He should have been a first team AA and Ken Clausen should not even be an honorable mention. Bocklet does nothing but take the ball away and dominate ground balls. Not to mention his flow is holy. Clausen, on the other hand, does nothing but get beat top side, including in the second overtime of a national semifinal game. A first team AA does not give up 4 goals in that game.

Yeah...
by (#199528) on 5/25/08 @10:28PM
But he had the task of covering Mike Levielle - that's not an easy task. Mike is a lefty and it's hard to cover a lefty in this game since there aren't all that many. Look at Greer - lefty finishers are hard to cover.

But I agree, Ken Clausen is Second Team at best. Bocklett should have gotten First.

Clausen Vs. Bocklet
by (#64262) on 5/26/08 @10:41PM
First of all Clausen is a nasty defender, however I agree that Bocklet is better. Its true about the top side thing regardless if its Leveille or not. Bocklet is just an animal in every respect. Clausen just is not clutch and takes too many risks. He got First team based on name alone. So many players have clowned on Clausen by going top side, good and bad players alike.

Either way I take Bocklet over Clausen any day.

ps. Mike Evans good defender and plays Danowski tough, but Levielle just owned him all day

Sid Smith
by (#184318) on 5/26/08 @9:41AM
is the most underrated defensemen in the country. Clausen is so overhyped it is ridiculous. Watch the game today. Sid Smith will dominate whomever he is matched up with. Go Cuse!!!!

Clausen is incredible
by (#147651) on 6/09/08 @6:14PM
Clausen diserves to be on first team. Even matt danowski says hes as good as a defender as anyone in the country. He made one mistake in the semi finals which was a lucky shot by Mike Leviele.

GVOZDEN
by (#134646) on 5/26/08 @2:51PM
the only problem though with gvozden was his svae percentage was like 49% or so when hopkins lost 5 in a row if he played like he did in the last 8 games with 72% svae percentage he would be 1st team but those 5 games killed him

ALL AMERICAN SELECTION = POPULARITY CONTEST
by (#195810) on 5/26/08 @11:43PM
After reviewing these selections I have to say this is prehaps one of the worst lists I've seen in a while, selection wise. I have multiple problems with this list.

First - Seibald 1st team? Are you serious? hes not even the best player on his team!

2- Clauson first team? Even worse then seibald selection! Clauson is overhyped and at best3rd team...oh and he looked like a first teamer then Leville beat him to win the game in overtime 2 nights ago

3-Lambe and Cocoziello? Perhaps the worst 1st team selection I've seen in a while. Both good players but no where near 1st team, maybe Coco but princton had a horrible year

4- Danowski*, Greer*, O'Hara* (asteric on 1st team...sorry you 3 should be pro's)

2nd Team-

5- Crotty and Mcdevitt?? I laughed when I saw this...Popularity contest right here, theyre both honorable mention AT BEST

6-Jordan Burke from Brown? Good goalie but def not 2nd team good, other people had a better year

3rd Team

7-Brad Ross?? HUGE joke, hes not even all-american status(popularity contest) AND you wont see Quinzani on this list next year when his buddies leave

8- Matt Abbott so underrated, 2nd team is moreappropriate

9- Bocklet 3rd team is perhaps the biggest piece of garbage in this entire selection, hes one of the best poles in the country, ground ball machine...1st team is not 2nd

10- Dan Loftus?? Are you kidding me Duke never played defense, not deserving at all

Honorable Mention:

11- Brendan Cannon, Kenny Nims, Garret Billings and Shane Koppans should be selected higher

12- Tims should be higher, Adam Jones plays for canisus and shouldnt be on the list at all, Barney Ehrmann shouldnt be on the list

13- Sid Smith and Brian Farrel should be higher

Players they missed:
PT Ricci (Loyola DSM), Dan Groot(Maryland, M), Joel White (Cuse LSM), Jake Hagelin (Loyola G), Jamie Lincoln (Denver M), Michael Gvodzen (Hopkins G), Grant Catalino (Maryland A)

I rest my case

Couldnt Agree More
by (#183458) on 5/27/08 @12:31AM
As far as Cuse' is concerned, I couldn't agree more with your statements about Abbott, Smith, and White. They all deserved much more recognition than they recieved. I am not sure what was going through the mind of the people who decided when they selected this year.

Greer is a year younger than the two of them and still has another year of eligibility.

Jordan Burke deserved that spot b/c he stood on his head this entire season in Brown's run for the playoffs.

But i do agree that matt abbott is very underrated. That kid is just flat out nasty.

honorable mention means that you are deserving of the honor but not better than the players that made the teams ahead of you. Or that your coach didn't complain enough at a meeting.
Looking at this list, i could not agree more it looks a lot more like a popularity contest. Its a joke, look at the D3 goalies for example. Curran got second team despite playing a more challenging schedule, posting more saves, a better goals against average more saves and facing almost a hundred more shots, all while not playing behind a zone defense. Kid got less love cause he was from the odac.

I saw Curran play against W&L this year, he was sick. W&L isn't a great team, but they are very patient and typically shoot well, I think he held them to 4 or 5 goals and really made the game a blowout. I'm glad he was recognized.

Clausen
by (#199836) on 5/28/08 @9:07PM
How can you even start to say that Clausen isn't deserving? Because you can think of one time he got beat? Not everybody is perfect. I've seen Bocklet get burned plenty of times. And you want to talk about groundballs? Bocklet picked up 70 and Clausen picked up 59 but Bocklet played LSM and Clausen only crashes when their FOGO is getting smoked. Clausen is good.

by (#36204) on 5/28/08 @9:36PM
Why is Malone on Honorable Mention? and why is Tim McLean not on the list at all?

Both of these two helped keep LeMoyne in the game whether they lost or not. They still deserve to be on there. Matt spuhr should be on 2nd team he should be replaced with malone.

There are no decent players out of Chicago-land these days

What a shame, because I know a few guys that could definitely beast a few of the "All-Americans"
