(Bridgeview, Ill.) The Denver Outlaws came into Toyota Park today with the expectation of walking away with another win to better their record to 6-1, while keeping the Machine in their cellar at 1-5. It looked that way for the first 6 minutes as Denver controlled the faceoffs and used crisp feeding to take a 2-0 lead in the first quarter. The Machine’s defense stiffened and Jake Deane took the ball end to end and beat Jesse Schwarztman using his long stick and started a 7-goal tear by Chicago.

Although it couldn’t counter Geoff Sniders’s exemplary work on the faceoff, taking home 18 of 29, the Machine defense played tough just beneath the line and forced Dembver to the outside and behind. Brian Langtry was held scoreless by a rotating coverage which had most fo the Machine defense on him in the game. Westervelt and Mondorf stepped up for the Outlaws, garnering 4 and 3 goals, respectively, while Striebel, Powell and Sonke each put in a pair.

For the Machine, hometown rookie, Steve Brooks hit the net three times (one a two-pointer) as did Kevin Leveille while Mike Leveille and Kimener netted a pair each. Chicago led 7-5 at half and 14-8 at the end of the third quarter and appeared to begin one of its chronic fourth quarter breakdowns, but it held on to prevail 16-13.
