Dirrigl names Brian Brecht Rutgers Assistant
press release September 11, 2000

Piscataway, NJ (September 11) – First-year Rutgers head lacrosse coach Bill Dirrigl has named Brian Brecht assistant coach, it was announced today.

A native of Long Island, Brecht served this past season as the defensive coordinator at Army after spending the previous two seasons as an assistant coach at the University of Pennsylvania. “Brian has a tremendous work ethic and we are fortunate that he has decided to come aboard with us,” said Dirrigl, the former Loyola associate head coach, who was named the head coach at Rutgers in June. “He believes in Rutgers University and loves the combination of Rutgers’ academic reputation and commitment to playing lacrosse at the highest level of Division I.” Prior to his tenure in Philadelphia, the 1995 Springfield (Mass.) College graduate served two seasons as an assistant coach at Hartwick College. As the defensive coordinator at Hartwick, he helped lead the Hawks to a conference title in 1997 and Division III Top 20 rankings in 1996 and 1997.

In 1995 Brecht assisted at Yorktown (N.Y.) High School, a sectional and regional champion, as well as a state semifinalist. Brecht has been associated with numerous summer camps and clinics, including West Point's summer camp for the last seven years. He has also served as an instructor/coach at camps at Penn, Princeton, Johns Hopkins, Hobart, Stony Brook and Cornell, in addition to Four Star, All World and USA Challenge camps.

Prior to his collegiate playing days at Springfield, Brecht attended Sachem High School on Long Island.

Brecht actually runs the "Motion Offense" not the defense. He encourages hard shooting!
