PIETRAMALA ANNOUNCES JOHNS HOPKINS' MEN'S LACROSSE RECRUITS

Five High School All-Americans Highlight 15-Man Class

BALTIMORE, Md. -- First-year Johns Hopkins men's lacrosse coach Dave Pietramala recently announced the 15 players who comprise his first recruiting class at Hopkins. The 15-man class is one of the largest in school history and is considered by many to be among the deepest and most talented classes in the country.

In all, the Blue Jays signed seven midfielders, four attackmen, and four defensemen. The 15 players hail from eight different states, reinforcing Pietramala's philosophy that Johns Hopkins will recruit the best lacrosse players from throughout the entire country. Johns Hopkins' entire 36-man roster for the 2001 season consists of players from eight states, including 22 from New York. The class of 2005, which will help offset the loss of 12 players from this year's team who are due to graduate in May, 2001, consists of four players from both Maryland and New York, two from Connecticut, and one each from New Jersey, Colorado, Virginia, Pennsylvania, and Ohio.

Five of the 15 players signed earned All-America honors last season as juniors in high school. Attackmen Peter LeSueur (Garden City, NY/Garden City) and Kyle Barrie (Narberth, PA/Haverford), midfielders Kip Malo (Denver, CO/East) and Vince Smith (Palmyra, VA/St. Ann's Belfield), and defenseman Chris Watson (Yorktown, NY/Yorktown) all garnered All-America status last season. The All-America selections were the second for LeSueur and Watson, who are generally regarded as two of the top players in the country at their position.

Below is an alphabetical listing of Johns Hopkins' class of 2005, with position, hometown, and high school included.

It is a shame that many of these great players will never have an opportunity to step on the field to play in their 4 years at Hopkins. At the rate that Pietro is bringing players in, he will have plenty of people holding up the sidelines. It is very unfair to the players to give them false hopes of playing.
