Army All Over Air Force by doug on February 27, 2000The Falcon's second road game in three days ended in the same fashion as their first (at Lehigh), with a 16-4 loss to the Black Knights. Army opened their 2000 season with a solid win on the home turf of Michie Stadium, while Air Force drops to 0-2 on the season.
The first quarter of the game was extremely close, ending with the score tied at two. Air Force's freshman goalie #21-Billy Arnold was the main reason the game remained tight in the first half -- making several key saves on many of Army's offensive attacks. He ended the day with 21 saves. Falcon attackman #15-Matt Dudderar had two goals for Air Force early in the game, but after that the Falcons' attack was severely limited from about mid-way through the second quarter until the final horn.
Army played an aggressive game which they controlled from both ends of the field. They fired off a whopping 54 shots, and on the defensive end of the field they let up only 4 goals on 19 shots. The Army offense was lead by attackman #15-Tim Pearson, who notched 4 goals and 5 assists on the day, and #10- John Fernandez, who finished off his hat trick with an around the back goal in the fourth. Freshman midfielder #14-John Ryan ripped his first collegiate goal to break the 2-2 tie in the beginning of the second quarter and then scored his second later on in the second half. Once Ryan's goal broke the 2-2 tie in the second quarter, Army scored the next five unanswered goals in a row to take control of the game and the game was never close from there on in. |
