The Game Story:

Butler got the scoring started when two Duke defenders picked each other behind the cage leaving junior Chris Aitkin one-on-one with Breslin. Duke ripped off the next four goals. Senior Hunter Henry showed his ambidexterity on the next two goals. The Durham Academy product scored first with a strong right-handed shot low and away. He followed that by crossing over his defender to finish lefty. Hartofilis got his scoring started on man-up off good ball movement by the Duke EMO unit. Freshman Dan Doty dunked one like classmate Chris Duhon to make the score 4-1.

The second quarter started the way the first ended with a Duke goal. This one came from Hartofilis again with a right-handed rocket low and away. That spot looked to be goalie Brendan Winkler’s weakness. Butler responded with a goal tucked inside the left pipe by sophomore Ryan Ward. Duke fought back with a highlight tape move by Kevin Brennan that would rival anything on the Absolute Powell video. While being tackled by two Butler defenders, Ward managed to throw a one-handed shot that found the back of the net. It was cool. Butler also showed some acrobatics on their next goal when senior Doug Patterson dove past Breslin to score. Butler went into the half only down three.

The Duke “D” put the clamps on while the offense kept on ticking to provide the wide margin of victory. The first goal was from former Gilman star Alex Lieske. Junior Terrence Keaney followed that up to make the score 8-3. Butler got their last goal of the game with 3:50 left in the third quarter by Adam Cichostepski.

The fourth quarter was all Duke. It was really a combination of two Duke sophomores who did all the scoring. Kevin Brennan and Mack Hardaker scored all their goals off assists. Butler looked a lot weaker than previous years. Although early, they do not look like a NCAA tournament team. Duke looked a lot smaller than previous years. The traditionally very physical Duke was not as physical but still tough on defense.

Does anyone know what's up with Duke's Greg Patchak? A returning all-american, he wasn't listed as starting against Drexel or Butler and didn't register any points. Is he injured or something??

He's out with an injury (I forget what, though). I put him on my fantasy team, though, before I knew about it. D'OH!!

Duke Uniforms

How sweet are the new Duke Uniforms? I saw them at the Coaches convention and thought they looked very sharp. What did the home threads look like?
Thanks,
