Draft No. 2

Draft No. 2
by neil on April 12, 2001

SECAUCUS, N.J. (April 11, 2001) - Today's MLL Supplemental Draft began with the first trade in the history of the league as All-World goalie Sal LoCascio was traded from the Bridgeport Barrage to the Long Island Lizards. In all, 90 players were selected in today's supplemental draft from a pool of over 500 eligible players.

Each team had up to three minutes per draft choice in the 15 Round draft. The drafted players will join the 20 players per team who were previously chosen at the MLL Inaugural Draft, at their respective team's preseason training sessions, which begin the first week in May.

"The lacrosse talent pool in this country is phenomenal. Never have so many skilled players been assembled to play lacrosse at the same time," said Jake Steinfeld, CEO, Body by Jake Enterprises and Founder of Major League Lacrosse. "Now, with the supplemental draft, along with players who were drafted in January, and the upcoming collegiate draft, everything we promised our fans will come to fruition in June. The best lacrosse players in the world will be competing head to head for the first time ever this summer. You don't want to miss this!"

The Bridgeport Barrage received the first pick of the draft, with which they selected former Hofstra University midfielder Brian Langtry. With the second pick, the Rochester Rattlers chose midfielder Steven Toll from Rochester Institute of Technology. The Long Island Lizards, selecting third, traded their first round pick and attackman Joe Brock to Bridgeport for goaltender Sal LoCascio. With their second pick of the 1st Round, Bridgeport then selected attackman Scott Hochstadt from the University of Maryland. The fourth pick went to the New Jersey Pride, who chose Johns Hopkins alumni Jeffrey Wills. Dan Radebaugh, a former University of Maryland defenseman was chosen by the Boston Cannons with the fifth pick. The final pick of the first round was taken by the Baltimore Bayhawks, who selected midfielder Scott Diggs from Duke University.

"To be chosen first is certainly an honor. However, the opportunity to play on the Bridgeport Barrage against the best players in the world is the real thrill," said Langtry.

The inaugural MLL season begins Thursday, June 7th at Homewood Field in Baltimore, between the Baltimore Bayhawks and the Long Island Lizards. Tickets are on sale at www.majorleaguelacrosse.com.

Final Roster Numbers
by (#7176) on 4/12/01 @8:37AM
Just a question. I know there will also be a collegiate draft after the NCAA tournament to gather the final group of players. My question is in regards to the final roster numbers. Is it just 25 players a team may carry active. Or is it 25 overal including whomever is on the injured reserve. I am just interested how the surplus of players will be handled. Will a team still have the rights to a player if he doesn't make the final group or can they keep him on a innactive list?

very surprising picks, however, they make sense in the geography of it all. The fact that some of these guys actually have jobs meant a lot.

if you notice, players from their region got drafted by those teams (hofstra/post went to LI, RIT went to rochester)

I'm sure these RIT guys are good, but there is no comparison between them and the guys who have come out of these top d1 schools before them.

there are guys in the club leagues who have legit jobs that couldn't commit to this.

LI still has the best team.

Nice pick with Wills. Now, you have another serious lefty threat with Hess. Also, don't underestimate Turnan. The kid is huge and is a great attackman. Carrier was a nice pick, too. He's a solid defenseman and is coming out of the great Maryland defensive system (and he's from Mountain Lakes, too). Paul Carcaterra is a good pick. I don't know about his conditioning and if he's in shape (no offense), but man, what a shot! It's going to be great seeing Jesse and Paul lighting it up. Pete Janney would have been a nice pick. I'm surprised nobody took him. Now, let's get some backup for Koudelka in the College draft (Trevor, stay near the phone!).

Doug Knight
by (#5488) on 4/12/01 @10:36PM
Where the hell has Doug Knight been lately? That guy was sick in college. He used to go to the goal reckless all the time. He'd be perfect for the MLL. Bring some dives to the game. Last year in the Summer Showcase there was one dive all summer, done by Jay Jalbert, who was at Virginia the same time as Knight if my memory is right. I think Tucker Radebaugh did some too. Anyways,Doug Knight was awesome in college, then he comes out and I think he helped coached for a while but that was it. He's still young and in his prime,he should be in the MLL. If anybody is in contact with him, tell him to get back into the game,he can't just walk away from it like that and leave the fans out in the cold aswell as the game of lacrosse.

Someone should have picked Gee Nash, NLL goalie, maybe he would be good a tfield, he's amazing at box lax in Canada and the NLL.

John Grant Jr, Gary Gait, Paul Gait and Tom Marechek are going to score a lot.
