Tar Heel Turnaround by doug on February 1, 2000Can Carolina's Head Coach, Dave Klarmann end his coaching career the same perfect way that he started it?
In 1991, Klarmann's first year as the head coach at the University of North Carolina , his Tar Heels ran the table with a perfect 16-0 record and a national championship. Over the past nine seasons, Coach Klarmann's Heels have amassed an overall record of 92-46 and seven NCAA playoff appearances. After three consecutive losing seasons (and playoff berts?!), a string of disappointments, and a lack of dominance, this year's Heels should hopefully be a pleasant surprise. The 2000 Tar Heels enter the season ranked #10 in Faceoff Magazine's coaches poll and are returning 27 letter winners from their 1999 squad. Will the team that used to consistantly paint the postseason with its baby-blue uniforms resurface in 2000, or will the Heels continue their lackluster fade alongside their retiring coach? |
