The first half started out all Georgetown with the Hoyas going on a 6-0 run. The scoring started with a fast break. Sophomore Mike Kanach sent a pass to senior Peter Velepec who found senior Andy Flick across the crease. Flick put it past a diving goalie, freshman Mike Gault. A 30-second penalty on sophomore Anatole Wedmid of Dartmouth gave Georgetown an extra-man opportunity. Junior Scott Doyle made the most of it by ripping a shot so hard that water could be seen flying off the net. Three minutes later, sophomore Steve Dusseau took the ball from behind the net after a missed shot and blew by his defender for another goal. The Big Green had a few shots during the first quarter but many of them flew high or were stopped by sophomore goalie Steve Schroeder who did a great job between the pipes. The next three Georgetown goals were put together by senior attackers Scott Urick and Flick. The two have been playing together for the past three years and it showed as they found each other with ease. Dartmouth finally got on the board with 6:38 to play in the second quarter. Senior Jeremy Desor found junior Georges Dyer about 6 yards in front of the goal. Georgetown came right back with some support off the bench with junior Jamie Sharpe hitting freshman P.J. Paolisso for the goal. Dartmouth showed some fight during an extra man situation and got a goal from senior Greg Edell off a feed from senior Conor Price. The half ended with one unassisted goal from each team: Velepec and Price. The Hoyas got off to a fast start in the second half with a score by sophomore Brett Wagner after a quick pass from Velepec. Velepec had the hot hand and scored the next two Georgetown goals with passes from Flick and Dusseau. In between was a goal from Edell who picked off a clearing pass from Schroder. Seven minutes left in the third period Dusseau scored his second goal from the right side with an overhand shot. Doyle, the Georgetown Prep grad, had a quick-stick off a nifty feed from freshman Mike Hammer to make the score 13-4. The Big Green showed a lot of heart and staged a mini-comeback scoring the next three goals. Desor, freshman Scott Rosslyn, and Price all found the back of the net. But Georgetown put the game game on ice by scoring the final three goals. Urick, junior Mike Henehan, and Velepec all put points on the board. Flick picked up his fourth and fifth assists on the last two. Game Notes The cold, damp weather surprisingly may have had more of an effect on the Big Green because they had a difficult time making clean passes and putting shots on cage. Junior goalie Danny Mooney relieved Schroder for the fourth period. The Gilman alumni looked great and it is obvious Coach Urick had a tough decision for a starter at goalie. Tough defense by the long stick middies for Georgetown caused Dartmouth to have trouble bringing up the ball. Special credit to freshmen Pat Collins and Kyle Sweeney and sophomore Mike Jezienicki. Legendary Maryland coach Dick Edell was one of the thousand plus in attendance Edell's son Greg is a senior at Dartmouth. Ironman award goes to junior midfielder Chris O'Hara of Dartmouth. He did everything on the field and never seemed to come off. This was the first game back for Rick Sowell since leaving Georgetown to become the head coach at Dartmouth. The next game for the Hoyas is Sunday at Duke. The next game for the Big Green is on Saturday with visiting Army.
