Denver Flips Villanova 13-7

In the first quarter the Wildcats dominated with possession times up to three minutes at a clip. Denver, however cashed in on its first opportunity at 12:43 to open the scoring. Mike Law put it in and that was just the beginning for him. Villanova answered at 8:44 when Eric Dauer put one past the Denver goalie. The Wildcats went up by two before the Pioneers brought it to within one on a nice curl from behind the cage by Chad Wittman. The Pioneers almost tied it up with six seconds to go, but goalie Matt Wilk stoned Denver's Chad Wittman in a one on one battle.

The second quarter was a completely different story. The Pioneers scored six goals while Villanova couldn't seem to get anything going. A telling point in the game was when the Pioneers were riding with the score being 4-3 in favor of the Pioneers. The Villanova team held the ball for what seemed to be an eternity while the Denver squad refused to give up. Eventually the ball was thrown out of bounds and it proved costly. Only seconds later Travis Taylor scored with a curl from behind the cage for the Pioneers to go up 5-3. The quarter ended with a score of 8-3 and the Wildcats had time to regroup.

The teams traded goals in the second half and Villanova was unable to recover from the second quarter. It was a well played game and very even except for that one quarter.D

I saw Villanova play and dominate both Bucknell and Cornell in two consecutive scrimmages. However after todays game I am confused as to if Villanova is a top 25 team or not...
