Eight Home Matches Highlight 2001 Duke Lacrosse Schedule

DURHAM, N.C. - Eight regular season home matches along with the ACC Tournament in Orlando, Fla., highlight Duke University's 2001 men's lacrosse schedule announced Monday by head coach Mike Pressler.

"This is the most competitive schedule we've assembled to date," said Pressler, who enters his 11th season atop the Blue Devil lacrosse program. "Besides the ACC, we've scheduled three of the top teams in the Ivy League as well as three of last year's NCAA quarterfinalists in Loyola, Georgetown and Hofstra."

Following a pair of exhibitions, Duke will open the 2001 season at home with Drexel on February 23 and Butler two days later. On March 4, the Blue Devils kick off league play at Maryland before hosting Sacred Heart (March 6), Loyola (March 10) and Brown (March 17). Following the three-game homestand, Duke takes to the road for three consecutive matches, facing North Carolina (March 21), Georgetown (March 25) and Harvard (March 31).

Yale (April 8) and Virginia (April 14) travel to Durham for Duke's final matches before heading to Orlando for the ACC Tournament on April 20-22. The Blue Devils will then close out the regular season at Hofstra (April 28) and home against St. Andrews (May 5).

Duke is coming off last year's 11-5 season which included a trip to the NCAA Quarterfinals where the Blue Devils suffered a 10-9 loss to Virginia. Four of Duke's five defeats were by one goal as the Blue Devils lost five matches by a total of nine goals.

Pressler has guided Duke to a 10-year record of 98-45 along with seven NCAA Tournament berths.
